Re: Why the alesis micron gets no respect ??

You don’t see a lot of discussion about older VAs in general but you did when they were newer. I mean the micron probably gets no more or less respect than an MS2000/microkorg, AN1X, JP-8000, etc. I had a micron and liked the sound, wasn’t crazy about the quality of the effects and hated the interfa...

Re: MOTU Volta

I don’t think that I’m much of a modular guy as I kind of like to have some limitations imposed but I am somewhat surprised this doesn’t get talked about more. I mean it is probably the most revolutionary thing to happen in modular synthesis since the advent of the original modulars. With the develo...

Re: Boards of Canada - hardware & software?

I don’t know for certain but I tend to think people exaggerate the extent of processing that takes place when BOC makes tracks. I mean ultimately it seems that for the most part they are taking simple melodies, be it sampled or original analog synth, and messing around with time, for the most part s...

Re: Anyone regret getting Voyager Old School?

By saying “ethereal” you’re really trying to build more clout to your soul argument than you are digressing. I mean come on, ethereal… really? I didn’t know electronic consumer items also doubled as metaphysical devices for communicating with Terpsichore, Erato, and Polymni. Very few would argue tha...

Re: what are your favorite digital synths?

I’ve never met a VA that I didn’t like but the Virus series are the best IMO and with everything that has been implemented on the TI it is a very versatile synth that goes far beyond just VA and I consider it much more of a digital synth than a digital synth trying to be analog. I’m also a fan of th...

Re: Prophet 5 - DOWNGRADE - Impossible????

Rev 3’s are less than garbage compared to rev 2s. You might as well compare a casiotone to a minimoog. I say buy a rev 3, take everything out of the wood case and either throw it away or give the parts to me (at no cost to you! And you’re recycling… A green synthesist really!). Then buy a rev 2 and ...

Re: Anyone regret getting Voyager Old School?

Alphacode, I've had a voyager for some time now and haven't noticed stepping. Could you explain what you are doing to hear it? Just curious. I’m curious as well. I don’t notice obvious audible stepping on my LP (stage) and I’ve had many vintage and modern monos to compare it to. I still have the LP...

Re: Woohoo! Look what I just bought!

At the noisebug asking price I am surprised they have had it this long. I've noticed noisebug has really good prices on their used gear. I try to look every so often. Noisebug has had some insane synths at veru reasonable prices up this last little bit...I actually have stopped looking...that Oberh...

Well you're not likely to find one in better shape than the one you bought.

Re: Prophet 5 - DOWNGRADE - Impossible????

Well nothing is impossible but what you propose is ridiculous and would cost much more than just buying a rev 2 if that’s what you want. This isn’t some simple OS upgrade or anything similar. We’re talking about a major hardware difference between rev 2 and 3.

Why is this in "gear for sale"?

Re: Poly Evolver filter sweep... unconvinced

Someone described the DSI filter as being anemic. I think the words adequate and subtle also apply. While not bad by any means I wouldn’t count on it sounding like a VCO synth sweep.

Re: Why doesn’t the OB-8 get more love?

talking about other Oberheims, one thing i know for sure, OBXA is a more agressive beast than OB8, which can be a bad or a good thing depending what you want or need. I hope you're right (as shortly I'm going to find out in person!)... I keep reading conflicting statements about this i.e. ob8 sound...

If I get some extra time I'll do some recordings of both doing the original factory P5 patches. Guessing game style might be fun.

Re: First encounter with a Prophet 5... slightly underwhelmed...

I liked the P5 a lot but I personally don't place it's value as high as the current market rate, simple as that. I thought there was enough overlap with under-rated P600, that even with it's shortcomings made it hard to justify the huge price difference. I've already gushed about the OB-8 in another...
