-> http://www.box.net/shared/31zmol9ga4 <- but yeah, essentially, its the prophet+jupiter+fairlight gang. how do you get that hollow-ploppy sound into a bass patch? I can get pretty close on my evolver.. You mean the slightly wood-block sounding bass? If I'm thinking of the same part is sounds like...

I think a lot of us are still learning and will continue to learn but man you've got some damn nice gear for these kinds of questions. Might be a good idea to start investing some time into the equipment. Based on the question maybe you should sell something off so you can focus on learning.

Do it. It isn't overly ambitious. I'm sure you'd get a lot of participants.

I love your music! The CS demo is nice, but the stuff at your MySpace site is wicked good. Good job! Thank you, it is nice to hear some positive feedback. I'm very self critical so I really appreciate it. I need to get down to making songs again, those are about a year old. Seems like I do too much...

Re: Help me find some 80's synths :)

http://www.box.net/shared/31zmol9ga4 1. Typical 80's Pad/Detuned(?) sounding Lead 2. Nice 80's Hi-Passy, Crisp pad -> Prophet? 3. African Wood drums (typical fairlight/emulator library stuff) + Rising/Ghost pad 4. Amazing/Awesome, sequenced Short decay/Fast attack, Ploppy/Hollowish synth bass. 5. P...

I think smallsynth hit it dead on. It is about character. Most analog synths can cover similar ground in a generic sort of way but most also have their own character. I think all you can do is play both and see their strengths and weaknesses and decide what you like and what works for you. Maybe you...

Also, your VA wont suddenly be analog. What I mean by this is the MS2000 will be characteristic of an MS2000 run through a filter as opposed to the VCO or DCO run through an analog filter. That is neither good nor bad just different. Oscillators, or any sound source for that matter, have a big effec...

Yamaha CS-30 demo

A friend requested that I throw together a quick "bassline" style demo of the CS-30 so he could get a better idea if he wanted a CS synth for his style of music. This isn't a song or anything and it isn't my general style of music either, it is just a quick and dirty demonstration of the CS-30. I no...

It seems that the Japanese vendors are simply not interested in such a direction. The big money is in the workstation market; thus, it is there that they focus for the most part. How about external filters? There are quite a few offerings that are very good. WD Yeah, I mean if your just interested ...

You might be able to get a Access Virus Indigo or KB at the top of your price range and I think you would be impressed with that. Also at $800 you could consider getting 2 cheaper synths to try different types out like maybe an an1x and a Juno. This would give you a bit of sonic variety touching on ...

It is an MS-20 educational model. I think I read that only a handful were made. I've never seen one for sale nor anyone saying they own one.

There are a fair amount of choices in that price range. What music do you play? Are you interested in sticking with VA or do you want something vintage? Some ideas:

VA:
Alesis Ion
Yamaha AN1X
Roland JP-8000

Vintage:
any Juno
Akai AX line
ESQ-1/SQ-80
Some Sequential stuff
CZ
DX
