I think he's talking about rack units....

Look into the Yamaha DX series, the Korg Wavestation, the Roland D50. All very popular w/ signature 80s sounds.

Stereo if I can, but then I'm improvising on Elektron boxes, and they're all about the stereo.

Re: Analog synths and Headroom

If you're talking about getting a whole mix loud, besides the obvious eq stuff, I suggest taking a page from Rob Acid's book, and use several compressors/limiters in series on the mix bus, each set up w/ gain reduction of less than or equal to 1 dB, and each set up with attack and release to get a d...

Re: What's the best cable for synthesizers?

For 99% of what you're doing cables are cables are cables. Unless you're doing super high-end recording, if the cables you have work, there's probably no need to get new ones.

Re: I have found my sampler

The V-Synth demos do indeed suck.
When I have some time, I'll put some together.

Re: NEW REAL OBERHEIM! Don Buchla! Dave Smith! Roger Linn!

Isn't there a recurring theme on VSE of people complaining about hipsters driving the price of moogs up because they want to be seen on stage playing a moog? Not to say you're a hipster, but is the name really that big a deal?

Re: NEW REAL OBERHEIM! Don Buchla! Dave Smith! Roger Linn!

Alright here's my thing. If Oberheim were to get back into making polysynths again this is what I would like to see. First, Tom Oberheim absolutely MUST get his name and logo back. Dave Smith doesn't seem to have suffered by not using Sequential Circuits, but it is strange to think of being in a si...

Re: I have found my sampler

Ok - think of this Take a sample and loop it, but modulate the sample length with an LFO which is reset with a key press. Instant bouncing ball sounds! And that's just the start. When Tallow and Stab talk about how this is really a hardware granular synth, they're not kidding. The fact that you can ...

I have found my sampler

I have a V-Synth, and I Get It.
This is exactly what I want to be able to do to sound with a sampler.
This is by way of saying that I was foolish to dance around this solution for as long as I did.

That's pretty neat - but where's my G3!

In all seriousness though, nothing up on the Clavia site yet? Is this a pre-pre-Namm teaser?

I saw this guy on musicthing a little while back - it seems like a great idea, but, like Reaktor and Max, I suspect for me it would be a bit too much process, a little too little performing.
