Re: I m tired of the virtual world

In the box/outboard doesn't make a difference to the sound, it makes a difference to the way you work. My experience has been that there is a difference in both sound and workflow. Much as it is with vintage synths, I find analog outboard effects have sound characteristics that are not to be found ...

i just watched this vid here and think it pretty much sums up what i m after: http://youtube.com/watch?v=8jaOmyrmyHE it sounds HUGE. That probably has a lot to with it being done on fantastic gear. If you want great sequencing, get an Elektron and the necessary converters. If you want that sound, t...

Like Stab says - record digital w/ quantisation off, or quantise and add some random jitter to the midi. Other than that, I'm going to say, from listening to your tracks on myspace, that it probably has a lot more to do with the production choices you've made sound-wise, rather than the way you've s...

Re: Vale Poly Evolver Rack!

I wonder if they'll replace it with anything like the Desktop P08 so people will still be able to add voices to their MEKs and PEKs? I had intended to pick up a PER at some point to go with my MEK, looks like it might have to be on the second-hand market now... I would be all over that. For me it w...

Bear in mind vintage studio gear was never designed to have colour, they were just designing the best circuits they could at the time, it's just with the passing of time and gear's association with particular recordings that sound becomes desirable - not unlike synths :) Although the prices some of...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't some high end processing equipment (e.g., the 1176) get a lot of love due to the colouration from the VCA?

The other thing that should be mentioned here is - Try to minimise the amount of visual assesment you're making when compressing. It's not about what it looks like, it's how it sounds. The advice about using EQ to trim away everything that isn't needed from each track is vital. For every voice you h...

THey are only over priced if you don't have one. If you have one, and like it, it is priceless.

I met somebody once who told me about using a slight delay to get a big spread on zir tracks. They said it worked great for them. I think that's what a lot of the "stereo widening" tools do on programs like t-racks, if you mean to do this on the complete mix. it does increase the stereo effect but ...

Play it in a car stereo - if it's the type of music you expect people to typically listen to in a car. Of course it's good if your mix sounds good on a car stereo, but there's tons of really well-mixed music out there which is the fail in a car. And, FWIW, this box may cost $2800 in Canada, but you ...

In addition to the help here, I recommend checking out Muffwiggler's forum:

Very helpful, very friendly. Though a huge inducement to spend a lot of money.

I dunno - if I a/b'd it w/o telling people which was which, I'm guessing there would be a pretty high percentage of people who preferred the Fatso version.

But, what I will also do is take this as a compliment of my mixing and recording ;)

I suspect that the average listener would notice that something was up - but they might not be able to put their finger on it.
I'll post some demos of what it sounds like when used for tracking later in the week.
