For those who'd like to get the answer to this enigma (without having to sign up to another forum) Method 1: (Trial & Error) Swap the VCO curtis chips CEM 3340 and see what happens. Could work. Methos 2: (Professional) Download the CEM 3340 datesheet (http://www.synthtech.com/cem/c3340pdf.pdf) and t...

It's probably the "crazy Source" problem. Moog issued a Service Bulletin about it - http://www.encoreelectronics.com/images/crazy.jpg Oh and MG, just because I'm posting after you with different advice doesn't mean I'm attacking you... No attack perceived. And thanks for sharing that document. I to...

I replied to your email. As stated in my email, I don't personally suspect the VCA... at least not at this point. From all you're describing here, the poor PS 3100 needs to see a synth doc for a global check up. Not implying that it's imperative but you'll have a lot you check after - my modest opin...

Hmm, Your Source seems to have a couple of issues, especially the membrane panel (maybe not itself) & power supply (specifically dying electrolytic capacitors, not only in the PSU). I'd also look at the ground wire at the back (usually a green wire). Have you check the 3 flatstrap of the control pan...

The hissing can be resulting of a faulty IC. But I wouldn't be surprised at all if some vital capacitors are about to die.

If you want one of my techs to look at your DX7, please let me know. I've got 2 techs in USA (Utah & Michigan) and obviously in Canada (Quebec).

Thank you!!!

I know how silly it sounds but many Ion users had this sort of problem when updating the OS.

The fix: using another sysex utility. I've been using MIDIOX without any problem. But some had. Go figure. And avoid Alesis sysex proggy: piece of c**p.

Hope that help

No battery = no memory. You can write patterns but you won't be able to save them. Are you accessing the ROM or the RAM patterns? I'm maybe paranoid but maybe there seem to be voltage drops (or fluctuations) - usually due to resistor thermal drift (yes, resistors can fail). Actually, it could be a l...

Very likely that the battery is dead. And look if it hasn't leaked onto the PCB.

You know I just can't refuse a job. Obviously I would accept it. But before shipping your board, have you tried to desolder them with liquid flux? Rosin flux recommended. Avoid any acid flux. This will help to desolder, especially old solder joints. Theorically, a 25W soldering iron should be able t...
