I have been using Cantabile to run soft synths on a pc. Is thee a free equivalent host program for Mac OS X? I'm looking for something straight forward and simple, not some complicated do it all sequencer program.

When I had one I used it mostly for bass and vocoding. I didn't do much patch programming or experimenting because I didn't really care for the interface. Trial and error is much easier on the K Station
