Re: synthetic voice ?

The nice thing about SayIt is that in addition to having a Preview button (as well as Pitch, Speed, Modulation, and Cascade sliders to tweak), it also has a Render button that will spit out a Wav file for you. So you don't need to have an audio recording program open at the same time.

Re: synthetic voice ?

There's also AnalogX SayIt (if you're looking for something a bit less realistic and more Speak & Spell-ish): http://www.analogx.com/contents/downloa ... eeware.htm

Gaffer's tape should be cloth-based, no? If your local art supply store doesn't stock it, photo supply places are another good bet.

Good place to get cheap, reliable Compact Flash cards?

Headline kinda says it all.

I just picked up an EHX 2880 looper that uses CF cards (my camera uses them too), so I'd like to pick up a few spares. Just wondering (before I spend all day slogging through the interwebs mire ;) ) if anyone knows a good source for cheap ones of decent quality. Thanks.

Re: Summer NAMM next week...

I will complain about the lack of dashboard-mounted synths. They can do it with car stereos, so why can't I have a CS-80 next to my steering wheel, with aftertouch routed to AC? What the h**l, Yamaha? I guess you just don't care about synthesis anymore.

I wants to make beats on the freeway!

Re: Ethan Kath (crystal castles) sound chip

Their legal troubles with artist Trevor Brown, over using (uncredited) artwork of his for record covers and t-shirts, actually make for a fairly interesting read: http://www.pileup.com/babyart/blog/?p=201 (this is the post chronicling the relatively happy ending, scroll down for the more vitriol-fil...

Re: Ethan Kath (crystal castles) sound chip

If you're interested in Atari sounds, you should check out the Synthcart. There are several people that sell them on Ebay, with accompanying 2600s (modified for 1/4" audio out) and the necessary controllers for reasonable prices ($140 or less).

Re: korg monotron vs MS-20

I'm all for vigorous debate, but the whole here's why you're foolish for wanting (or not wanting) the Monotron thing doesn't really qualify. People need to learn how to express contrary opinions without condescending and proselytizing (at least, I think so ;) .)

Use MIDI and play with your hands. After all, thesis + antithesis = synthesis.:thumbright:

Re: Waldorf Blofeld Keyboard : most underrated of 2009

Probably unlike the module, the set-out and proportions are also so intuitive that the step to in-depth editing feels less unnatural;.) Hasn't the keyboard got the exact same number of knobs (and the same size display) as the desktop version? Seems like editing would be pretty identical between the...

Re: balanced/unbalanced studio wiring question

The balanced cable on some units that expect unbalanced will cancel the sound. More of an issue with gear that's oriented towards guitarists than keyboardists. Very common on pedals. Not quite sure what this means. How does using balanced cable on unbalanced gear 'cancel the sound'? Yeah, if you pu...

Re: Looking for a portable sequencer like the old Yamaha QY-

The QY-100 came out in 2001 and as far as I know hasn't been upgraded since then; the ones currently sold new still have (obsolete) SmartMedia slots for storage. The demand for hardware sequencers was drying up in the late '90s, so you're not going to find a whole lot of new stuff manufactured in th...

Re: Patchbay question - CV/Trigger etc...

So, what you're saying is to keep the patchbay at full-normalled? (Pardon my ignorance) - this would mean I could essentially plug all my trigger and cv ins and outs into the rear of the patchbay and then just patch y to z on the front? I've never used a patchbay before, other than completely de-no...

Re: Patchbay question - CV/Trigger etc...

As long as you have all of your jacks set up to be isolated (which should just be a matter of setting your patchbay for full-normal, rather than half-normal, and making sure the appropriate jacks in back are all filled with cables and/or dummy plugs) you shouldn't have any shorting problems unless y...

Re: Patchbay (audio, not MIDI) recommendations?

I went with the Neutrik (after unanimous recommendation on here and from a friend)and promptly bought a second one a week ago (got a good deal on a used one locally, and they fill up quicker than you think ;) ). Still need to make more cables for the second one, but I've had the first one up and run...
