Re: CZ-5000 NO MEMORY SOUNDS
I was able to access the memory sounds by holding down the initialize button when keyboard is off, turn on while holding down, LCD will ask if you want to initialize, press for yes while still holding down button, release initialize button and it will reload the memory sounds. Thanks to all for you...

Re: Ribbon Controlers
Yes, I've made one. I wired it up to a TRS jack, with three switches in between: one turns a 9V battery on/off (so it can be used as a CV controller, or a passive expression-pedal type controller), the second has a resistor to cut the battery voltage in half (for stuff that runs on 0-5V instead of 0...

Re: Can you suggest a step sequencer that filters external a
there's some mfb step sequencer filter box you might find for cheap... don't remember the correct name... It's called the MFB FilterBox, go figure. ;) It's a filter with a MIDI-syncable 8-step sequencer to control to cutoff, so you can totally use it for audio gating type sounds. Click the MySpace ...

Re: Can you suggest a step sequencer that filters external a
Korg Electribes are a good cheap option. EA-1 has one Audio In that you can use as a straight gated sound, or use like an oscillator and modulate together with the 2nd internal osc. ER-1 has two seperate Audio Ins that can be used as like drum parts (i.e. short gated audio bits), and ring modulated ...

Re: How to set up effects processing units
What's your current setup? Are you looking to buy some additional gear (if so what's your budget), or just make better use of what you have now? In my case I've found having a mixer (with enough inputs to keep all of my synths connected at all times) and all of my effects/synth audio-ins/etc. connec...

Re: CZ-5000 NO MEMORY SOUNDS
Basing this on the CZ-1000 (I assume the 5000 is similar), there are two types of patches other than "Preset". There's "Internal", which are 16 user patches that are only stored as long as there are 6 D-cells (though it can be modded to work with 4 AA's) in the synth; and there's "Cartridge" which o...

Never needed to e-mail them, but I've ordered 2 or 3 things from them with no problems.

Just remember to back up your patches first.

Re: What is a "Slip In/Slip Out" battery holder?
Yep, that's exactly what it means; the battery is in a clip as opposed to being soldered in place.
It's as easy as changing the battery in your watch, tv remote, or whatever. Taking all of the screws out of the bottom of the An1X is the hardest (well, not hard, just a bit tedious) part.

Re: Hardware Arpeggiator Recommendations?
The only standalone arpeggiator I can think of is the Waldorf Gekko, and I've only ever seen one for sale on Ebay. I guess there's just not much of a market for hardware MIDI accessories anymore. It's too bad. I'd really like a MIDI clock divider/multiplier myself. What would your budget be for a se...

Re: digital H/W MIDI sequencer to record LIVE
Not sure what "pure MIDI" means, but E-mu Command Stations will let you switch in and out of record mode while a sequence is still playing, and they're cheap.
Also, there's a Buyer's Guide section of the forum for stuff like this.

Re: "Potentiometers" on new DSI synths - *Rant Warning!*
It's not a VCO vs. DCO thing. Any synth with patch memory will have some stepping on the controllers, because they're all getting processed through a CPU. The degree to which the stepping is audible depends on the processor speed/quality, and probably several other things depending on the exact arch...

Re: early aphex twin distortion sound
I do like a good feedbacking here and there... Yeah, me too, but here and there is the key; one droning high-pitched frequency through the whole song kind of just sounds like a mistake. Then again, the OP did ask about distortion, not feedback, so maybe no-one's out to reproduce that test-tone soun...

Re: early aphex twin distortion sound
The main whining sound on ventolin is from feedback on his mixer i.e. he overgained the input or send with the same input signal. erm, just so it's clear (amidst all the speculation): this IS how he made the ventolin sound... It's not hard to do with any basic mixer. Sure, or pretty much anything e...

MIDI premiered in '82, and was well on its way to becoming a standard feature by '84. So, no, not abnormal.smoothcriminal wrote:Midi in/out, not normal for an instrument allegedly made in 1984?
