Re: ALL synths will eventually become vintage for somebody
does the term "vintage" truly has have any sense ? Not any objective one, no. It's a just a nonsense word you use to make the c**p you couldn't give away your garage sale sound better on Ebay. And in this era of desperate anticipation of future nostalgia (behold, the kitsch vortex approaches singul...

Re: Using Paypal on the forum
PayPal protections—or lack thereof—aside, it's much easier to dispute charges with your credit card company (you're only legally liable for the first $50 of a demonstrably fraudulent charge) than it is to try and get your bank to put missing cash back into your checking account. I would never link a...

Re: Surge Protectors and UPS's for synths
I'm not sure there's anything (aside from unplugging) that can reliably protect gear from lightning strikes. I have almost all my gear plugged into two cheap power strips that are plugged into an outlet that's wired to a light-switch, which gets flipped off when I'm not using anything. Not sure if i...

Re: EDP Wasp filter repair?
The pot is labeled 1 MEG so I bought a replacement and put it in. It seemed to be the wrong value because the new pot only worked over a very small range of the pot's travel. The replacement pot is the same value as the original, but are you sure it's the same taper as well? Replacing a linear tape...

Re: Impedance/level-matching issues
DI Box: converts Guitar Level to Mic Level Guitar level and mic level are roughly the same. Poor choice of words on my part, as the dB level is in the same range and it's just the impedance that the DI box is coverting. Perhaps I should have done my little chart thus: Guitar Signal = Hi-Z, low dB M...

C'mon, who'd try to use it as an actual sequencer?Purity_Control wrote:Prophet 600 sequencer needs to be seriously up there with the worst.
mainly famous for not actually playing back at the speed that you played things into it
It can be useful just for some hands-free droning notes/chords in the background.

Re: JV-1010 vs Nanosynth vs TR-Rack
What's your budget?
JV-1080s seem to be going for only slightly more (about $50 US) than 1010s. That would give you a proper display, a bit of front-panel editability (handy for setting up other stuff, even if you're planning to just use presets), and space for 4 expansion cards instead of one.

Re: Impedance/level-matching issues
Actually, it seems I got one of those wrong. It should be:
Line Level = Lo-Z, High dB
I think?
Trying to do things the right way is hard.

Impedance/level-matching issues
I've researched this myself, and I think I may have it nearly right, just looking for confirmation (and/or correction) of the following rules of thumb : Guitar Level = Hi-Z, low dB Mic Level = Lo-Z, Low dB Line Level = Hi-Z, High dB DI Box: converts Guitar Level to Mic Level Re-Amp Box: coverts Line...

Re: creamware/sonic core_dirty little secret?
In my experience with the Minimax ASB, it worked fine in monosynth mode. It was when I tried to use it in poly mode that I ran into problems (constant stuck notes, even when I was nowhere near the supposed 12-note polyphony limit). It was a great sounding synth, it's just too bad Creamware/Sonic Cor...

Re: Effect section in Roland SP-606 as stand-alone?
The VF-1 looks cool but having no knobs to tweak kills me. Glad you found something you like (I've got the MiniKP myself, tons of fun). But for the benefit of anyone else looking at this thread, the VF-1 has really good MIDI implementation (plus an assignable expression pedal input), so hooking it ...

Re: creamware/sonic core_dirty little secret?
The ASB boxes, while sounding great, have some significant MIDI/polyphony bugs (which may or may not be an issue depending on how you plan to use them), and Creamware/Sonic Core stopped updating or even supporting (I spent about 6 months trying to get a response from their Help e-mail before I just ...

Re: Top 20 Most Unreliable Vintage Synths
...repairing the membrane controller in my P-600 was mighty expensive. Was that before the newly manufactured ones (chipforbrains/Technology Transplant on Ebay) became available? Because I think I only paid $40-something for mine. Still have it in reserve though, as the original membrane has yet to...
