Re: 120 min of Buchla 200

great sampler fodder GB thanks so much for posting! funny--i walked out of the room for aabout 10 minutes while it was downloading...up re-entering (and having forgotten all about it), heard my laptop making frightening (but strangely good sounding noises. then i remembered--phew! can't wait to run ...

Re: woo i finally snagged a sequential circuits six trak!

the six-trak is great for lots of stuff...the filter is real nice and more suitable for snappier bass sounds than the p600. it can excel at nasally tones and real pretty stuff too. a versatile and often overlooked little gem.

Re: was an mpc question, now a reason question...

thanks again, stab and tallow, for the quick lowdown on hardware samplers. like i said, i'm familiar with the akai os but the more i looked into e-mu (that bit about them being more "synth-like" really piqued my interest, b/c i have my "drum-like" needs met by the mpc) the more i got intrigued by th...

Re: was an mpc question, now a reason question...

thanks matt, some good food for thought there, stuff/features i wouldn't have thought/known to consider (and good advice about the manuals--i'm at least familiar with the akai os and it basically works for me, but i'm heartened to hear another voice in support of e-mu's ease of use). leaning e-mu, c...

Re: was an mpc question, now a reason question...

yeah, checking out the e-mu stuff for the first time really (ruling out yamaha cause i have plenty of outboard fx and a full dose of yamaha's dsp's in my aw2816). was tempted to go akai out of instinct and fmailiarity with their OS...but liking what i'm hearing from you and online about the emu line...

Re: was an mpc question, now a reason question...

I'd be looking for an S3000XL or one of the later Yamaha or E-Mu ones, but make sure it's one with an internal HD fitted. The biggest pain I find with old samplers is storage so having it internal is one less thing to worry about. They're all so cheap now that paying a little extra for the HD doesn...

Re: was an mpc question, now a reason question...

Yeah, no audio input in Reason. d'OH! thanks... so that leads to the following question: do you (or anyone else) have a recommendation among the akai s-series or yamaha a-series? my music is all over the map, but presumably i'd keep doing most of my percussion-oriented sampling on the mpc, so figur...

Re: was an mpc question, now a reason question...

You can do something like it with 16 levels -> pitch, but that's only 16 notes. Any hardware sampler can do what you want. MPCs are sampling drum machines rather than samplers really, check out the Akai S series, the E-Mu samplers or the Yamaha A series. thanks for the reply stab...yeah, was aware ...

was an mpc question, now a reason question...

EDIT: so i think i've now established to my satisfaction that i can't do the task below with an mpc2000xl (would need the 4000, i believe)...so my new question is: can you create/capture samples with reason's NN-19 sampler? i have reason 2.5 and don't think you can--only load samples captured elsewh...

Re: Prophet 600 VCO's or DCO's?

cool tunes that show off the prophet well, james--thanks for posting. in the first one...what's that sample that comes in about 19 seconds in? sounds so familiar and it's totally driving me nuts that i can't place it. i think maybe it reminds me of a sample on the howie b. album snatch... That was ...

Re: My first analog synth

congrats on your new acquisition! i really like the aj2...i'm with you on digging some of the traditional instrumental presets; i've found that, with a little shaping, they make really good starting points. the flute, for example, needs very little tweaking to get to sound very mellotron-y. as for p...

Re: Prophet 600 VCO's or DCO's?

This is mostly Prophet600: http://www.carbon111.com/music/blackriver.mp3 And the stuff that isn't distorted violin or guitar is P600 as well: http://www.carbon111.com/music/gem.mp3 I've always liked the beast. cool tunes that show off the prophet well, james--thanks for posting. in the first one......
