Re: The gear I've had during the years...

So why do you all get through so much gear? I really feel I never need to buy another synth, that I could live another 50 years without getting to the bottom of the stuff I've got. In my case its a combination of new found financial independence, lack of thrift, and the fact that there is a lot of ...

Re: Yet another streamlining setup thread

Edit: I'm not selling any synths, I just tried sampling my microkorg patches and I realized how much I f**k love this thing.

Re: Yet another streamlining setup thread

just put it in the closet. you'll want it again someday. they go for what...200-300 right now? if anything, get rid of the microkorg. you can get another whenever. sometimes we just need a break. i sold off everything but my esq-1. hadn't touched much musically for a long while. now i am going to s...

Re: Yet another streamlining setup thread

Its really more of an issue of space. I like having everything in front of me on my desktop and sq8l also sounds really good to my ears. I'm also worried about having an older piece of gear that is bound to fail sooner or later, although they are durable pieces of equipment. Also while the sq80 is e...

Yet another streamlining setup thread

I hope I'm not annoying anybody here and I'm not sure if I should place this in Help! or not. Anyway I keep reading about how people here experience better work flow after getting rid of unneccesary gear. In the past I've done alot of buying and selling and often ended up with stuff that I just didn...

Re: The morality of sampling movie SFX

I'm not really that worried about copy right infringement. After all if I got the raw materials to make these sounds and the recorded them myself would I be doing anything illegal? Eh, I'm going to do it anyway. I pitch everything down, or in some cases up anyway, in addition to adding fx, and lfo m...

Re: VSE - Good trader thread

Suburban Bather helped correct my mistake of stupidly selling my ea-1 not once, but twice. Great deal, he even upgraded to priority even though I didn't request it. No complaints what so ever, A++ and all that jazz.

The morality of sampling movie SFX

I recently f**k around with taking samples of certain sound effects found in movie clips on youtube. While I'm sure it would be hard to pinpoint the source of these sound, and well I'd never get popular enough to be sued, I'm still curious as to whether or not people would consider it to be stealing...

Re: First real hardware synth. Should I get...

But the blofeld doesnt seem as versatile The most important part is that you should like the sound of the thing. However, to say that the Blofeld isn't as versatile is silly. It's got: - the wavetables that hold up their own and do more than what the DWGS in the MS can do (namely, smooth transition...

Its a great beginner synth and you can pick one up for about half of the cost of Blofeld. The ms2000 pretty much single handedly taught me signal flow and subtractive synthesis. Its a great learning synth and is still quite capable for a VA of its age. You have a vast variety of wave forms and the m...

That Circuit City stuff is mostly BS, FeCr was NOT metal tape and there was no "type 0".
Thank you so much, I just picked up a ten pack of xl-II off ebay.

Yamaha MT1X and CR02 tape

Thought it would be best to move this here. Well I've been considering getting into recording for quite a while now. I previously believed that I could just get by using audacity, but later realized I don't enjoy using computers for damn near anything. So I picked up a yamaha MT1X four track. I'd be...

Yamaha DX11 with a missing key, a scratchy volume knob, and a melted place on one of the minor keys. It cost me nothing, but sadly I have yet to really use it. I really like the key action on it and I'm impressed by its build quality. I one day hope to get it repaired.
