All of those that you mentioned are basically advanced FM synths with filters... The FM engine on an alesis fusion might appeal to you. It has a matrix for routing between all the oscillators freely rather than using algorithms, just like toxic/octopus/whatever... And then it has a filter section. I...

yeah, I'm just waiting for the mac version to be done so I can demo it.

I just got cakewalk rapture for xmas though so I think my main priorities right now are a better midi controller and some effect plugins rather than more synths though.

Couldn't you use any modular oscillator with a sync input?

lounge lizard was AAS, not Arturia. AAS makes a softsynth called ultra analog though. You might like it. Or Fabfilter's Twin and One. Also, Gmedia's Minimonsta sounds pretty powerful. If you're looking for seperate glide times, I like using Cakewalk Rapture. Not exactly a VA, but you can set a diffe...

new distortion plug from D16 coming soon... It looks nice.

http://d16.pl/index.php?menu=183 it's an emulation of diode clipping combined with three (!) multimode filters (I can't tell if they're routed in serial or parallel though... Looks like parallel to me, since it's advertised as a "multiband distortion" and there's independent volume for each filter....

"(insert hardware synth here) is so much better than (insert software synth here). There's just no comparison to the sound of a REAL synth"... "(insert hardware synth here) is so much better than (insert software synth here). There's just no comparison to the sound of a REAL synth" It's even better when users of certain software synths claim that they are a very accurate rendition of a synth they have never used... I hate that too, actual...

Brainspawn Forte looks pretty awesome for that type of thing on windows, while mainstage (part of logic studio) looks awesome for that on mac.

I haven't been able to use either myself (being on mac and only having logic express) but I'm fairly sure they do what you want, so you should check them out.

I'm pretty sure I'm getting a new softsynth for christmas... Cakewalk Rapture. That thing is intense in it's selection of weird waveforms and DSP transforms.

THAT'S what I was talking about in my original post. I had completely forgotten how to do it in the time that passed... Thanks a million.

Favourite software FILTER plug-ins?

I know a lot of people on here are obsessed with filterbanks and such in hardware (shermans, ebbe and flut, etc.) but I've recently taken quite a liking to using filter plugins to mangle my sounds... Do you have any favourites? So far I've demo'd and rather liked the following, and will probably buy...

if you'd post a short summary of how to make those kinds of flute sounds I'd be really grateful.

I'm finding drums to be the hardest part of the composition process here... I guess I've just been too lazy with them, looping them and such instead of making them one bar at a time.

I'd take ES2 over any of the freeware synths I've found so far... Do you buy any of your softsynths; you think it's worth it? I don't pirate anything, if that's what you're asking. I've been demoing lots of payware synths and will be buying a few that offer me things the built in logic ones don't (...
