That sucks about the "synth acting as a soundcard" thing... If they would act like a DSP expansion instead it would be awesome... Maybe I should just get a midi interface with 8 ins and outs, and a soundcard with a bunch of inputs so I can do it the old fashioned way with ANY synth...

I dunno, it depends how many different "character" pieces you want. If you buy somewhat limited but unique sounding softsynths like vintage synth emulations (arturia's plugs, Gmedia, ect.) you can wind up with quite a few... But if you're only looking to "cover the most ground" you could get away wi...

I understand what you're saying, but what I'm basically looking for is a synth that would act like a DSP expansion for my studio computer, but still be usable live without the computer so I can gig...

yeah, but if a synth is 16 part multitimbral, you'd need either 16 outs (and 16 ins on your soundcard) or built in USB to actually use all 16 parts... No, you'd need a single mixed output. Then you can't mix the parts individually. Which works fine live, but I would never use multitimbrality like t...

Also, does the Virus TI stream audio and midi well without crackles or pops yet?

I think the multiple trigger mod makes it perform without legato... AKA make the envelopes retrigger with every note, like on an ARP synth.

Total Integration/USB Synths/Blofeld/Virus/VSTi?

Are there any synths other than the virus TI coming soon or already out that can be used as a VSTi/AU and stream audio and midi over USB/Firewire? I'm moving more and more towards software every day, but something like that would work for me live and act as a DSP expansion in the studio... The perfe...

I've heard that the moog modular V is good for audio rate filter FM...

Yeah, the Q can do both types of filter FM (keytracking LFOs, using an oscillator, ect. ect. ect.)... God I would love to have one of those.

best softsynth for filter FM?

Let's hear it! I'm looking for something to really mess with filter FM with. Keytracking LFOs that go well into the audio range or the ability to actually modulate the filter with an osc is preferred...

Re: ...

mitch, you actually used your an1x yet? or is the adaptor still screwed...lol x Yeah I have, and it's pretty nice. Kinda limited in the LFO section and the interface from the front panel kinda sucks though. I can no longer use the brilliant software editor as my brother took the only PC in the hous...
