It's a shame that old threads vanish, because this particular topic was discussed in great detail last year. There were various opinions and even some sound samples. I was one of the supporters of the OB12. Although not sounding at all like the SEM-based, OB or Matrix Oberheims, the OB12, nonetheles...

Firstly, because your mom is into electric pianos, have you considered something like a Casio or Yamaha consumer-level keyboard? They are cheaper than a MicroKorg and sound exactly like the instruments that were sampled to create their patches.

Secondly, this is a BUYER'S GUIDE question.

My Casio VL-1 still sits in my studio. I received it as a gift in 1979 or 1980.

I've never sold a single piece of gear, and I do not foresee a change in this behaviour anytime in the near future.

I cannot seem to find anything about the Akai AX-90. Do you have any information on it?

Thanks.

Early on in my getting into analogue synths, I spent some time with several EMLs, and I loved them. I was completely green at programming back then; thus, I don't know if it was merely the patches that I created, but I recall a sense of gutturalness unique to them. The interfaces were pretty easily ...

Minimoog -- Big Bottomed Beast. Well-earned reputation. Voyager -- A lovely modern-day relative of the Minimoog but lacking as much bottom end as its predecessor. However, that is not to say that the bottom end is lacking. And with loads of knobs and more modulation possibilities than the Mini. LP -...

The lovely FWONK from a JP8. [Not to be mistaken for the infamous Con Brio FWONK.]
