OK, so we've gone from talking about "loop point" modulation to "sample start" modulation- both are quite different!! If Kontakt can do loop point mod, then I'm happy...

Sample start modulation is fairly common, all the Emu stuff does it too. Loop point modulation however, is quite rare. Akais don't do it. The S612 has a slider on the front for it, but that's it, you can't assign that to MIDI. So just the Ensoniqs. Actually, I never checked if Kontakt or Emu X can d...

I think what you need to do is to define more clearly what the issue is. Fuzz is not such a good description, that word is normally used for a particular type of clipping distortion in the analogue domain. Can you post actual example recordings? I think what you might actually mean is: (a) hiss, or ...

I can't imagine the purpose of sampling the ensemble effect as the playback will sound like many stringers playing back at once, one key each. Ian Actually it doesn't sound like that in real life, although what you say is logical. Sampling it with the ensemble effect helps to mitigate that it's a f...

The 505 has a bigger sample memory than the 707, so the sounds are longer, especially the cymbals. It lacks character I think, the sounds are extremely dated. The snare is kind of like a Linn, and the kick drum needs a little eq to sound good, mainly just a little 80Hz shelving boost, and it sounds ...

There are a few PC based editors available on its Yahoo group. Interesting sound, lots of character. I have a keyboard version with a dead floppy.

Ya, really great sound. It's just a pity that they're so badly built.

OK, that's good. You get vintage ensemble and modern ensemble. It would be interesting to try the non ensemble samples with my Boss CE-2.

So, am I correct in assuming that they've made the samples without the instruments built in ensemble effect? That's odd- the character of a stringer IS the ensemble effect.

Judging from the Roland and Solina samples I have, solo string sounds are always poor. That's not a problem, I didn't buy them to try to immitate solo string instruments! As long as the ensemble sound is accurate, that's all I need. I'm not sure what you were expecting from the very basic architectu...

Good! Lovely actually, and nicely played. Here's a track with the XXL Logan, gated and filtered in an ESI4000:

It's S1000 format, which I assume works on a CD3000 perfectly. Buy it here:

I've never used the real thing, so bear that in mind... The Best Service XXL string machines AKAI CD sounds excellent. The used Infinity to loop the samples with the ensemble effect built in, and it works great. I've used the sounds very successfully in many tracks of mine. I use an ESI4000 to play ...
