Sir Ruff, I think you might want to consider the sp-404, as JSRockit also suggests. It has some really cool features, and loooooooong sample time (it reads samples directly from the memory card). And it's also cheaper than the Akai (?). yeah, I'm thinking this will still be so limited as even a bea...

good lord. search this phrase in google: akai s900 filters and read the first two lines of the first entry. 2nd. but I googled it and got a ton of results, some saying analog and some saying analog-like.. which one is it? :D to be honest what difference does it make? it's basically a gloiried tone ...

What's the point in copying that sound anyway? Can You Feel It is the winner of the song that is the best song using the bass noise in Can You Feel It award already. ha... well said!!! having just made the same patch on my poly-6, i think this really was a juno-6 (not jup-6 like someone else sugges...

funny, I always thought this was a "lately bass" sound, but that juno demo sounds spot on.

I think Billy Wolfer played the synths on "Billie Jean" so maybe he can shed some light on this. According to an article in an old Keyboard Magazine, he used a Prophet 5, Jup-8 and CS-80 on the songs he contributed to. Micke I used a CS80 to play the chords that move against the bass line on Bille ...

sp-202? :P battery powered, built-in mic, memory cards :) heh because the mpc is so much more than just a sampler.. IMO, it's more of a sequencer than a sampler (though a lot of people just use it for drum beats and stuff) so using it, just to record some samples outside or something wouldn't be us...

sweet!

far more than I thought, and quite a variety. what on earth did they use the portasound for? and why have 3 jup-8s? seems like overkill for recording.

This is actually an appropriate topic, today is the 25th anniversary of the release of Thriller. Still the biggest selling album of all time!

Can we get a full rundown of all the synths used that haven't already been mentioned?

IMO I think you should get a 1000 instead.. it's a better sequencer for outboard gear and a larger lcd for editing (the 500 has a lot of menu diving) and just sequence everything with it! IMO it's based on: 1) Do you want a rock-solid MIDI sequencer + sampler 2) Or a drum machine / sampler if 1) su...

Do I need an MPC 500?

Sorry this is so self-indulgent, but I need outside opinions that specs won't tell me. Maybe from people who don't normally use MPCs as I am normally entirely pc-based for sequencing/sampling. These seem to be getting cheaper by the day-around- $400 on the low end now, that, short of a cheap laptop,...

the most typical way (that I know of) is to use sync on two square wave oscs. this would work on any similarly equipped synth e.g. a jx3p. Modulate the synced osc pitch with an LFO and play around with the respective octaves. if they are pretty close e.g. 1) 16' and 2) 8' you will get a decent PWM e...
