FT: Yamaha CS-30 for Roland SH-5 or similar
Thinking seriously about trading my CS-30. It's in great condition and sounds ridiculous, but is just not getting love it deserves. I initially sold my SH-5 after buying the 30, and now I'd like to try the 5 again. I could also be interested in similarly "large" vintage monosynths from that era, so ...

Re: Korg MS-20 Mini
I think it's very cool the original engineers are so involved and so forthcoming about this stuff. But also that they agreed to be involved the first place. Tom Oberheim and Dave Smith are still cranking their stuff out, but they are the owners of their respective companies. I imagine many of the or...

Re: Monosynth + no patch memory = ???
I totally agree that, for the most part, almost all settings on a standard analog synth can be learnt to the point of recreating them easily. When I first started getting into synthesizers, I would naively read interviews and user reviews, totally convinced that these wonderful, kerazzy analog machi...

Re: Modding moog sonic 6
Schmidtc and CZ, thanks for the input! Very helpful.
CZ - I see what you're saying about just using the pitch input jack. So are you suggesting wiring ONLY the pin 6 for gate and pin 2 for ground on the accessory jack?
Also, label making: Classique!

Re: Modding moog sonic 6
Looks like it is pin 6 on the Sonic 6 that carries the V-trigger(Gate) input. With pin 1 as positive voltage, pin 2 ground and pin 3 negative voltage. That is how the 1125 sample/hold, 1150 ribbon and 1130 percussion controller trigger the gate on the Sonic VI, via the 6 prong cinch/jones connector...

Re: Modding moog sonic 6
Got it all figured out. It's called a cinch jones plug. I can get one on eBay for $5 to $10, then wire it up to connect through the right pin, put a 1/4" cable on it and I'm ready to go. Thanks for your help all. Great, glad you found them. (Feel like making me one too? ) p.s. it's "sicks" :P

Re: Modding moog sonic 6
Do you realize that the accessory jack has pitch-CV and gate points? All you need is one of the appropriate connectors (still available), which you can then wire appropriately.

Re: Modding the MS-20 Mini
Nice... I have to really give credit to Korg for being forward thinking about this stuff. When, except maybe back in the wild and wooly '70s, has any major synth company essentially endorsed modification of their products? I can see the PWM mod being on the top of a lot of mod-lists. It would be nic...

Re: does any synth sound better to your ears than an Omega 8
yes - this was my experience with the omega - static sounds sounded great (though I wouldn't describe the synth as having an edge)...but modulation sounded a bit strange. for my ears i thought modulation on Omega sounded pretty good, just wasn't damn enough! other than the OSC FM and Filter FM, it ...

Re: KMS-30 tape sync - only as tight as the original master?
Why? Shouldn't the tape sync be tighter than DAW clock? I can't say for sure that one is tighter than the other, but I really imagine there being a significant difference, especially since you're only sending clock (rather than actual midi notes). FSK requires that lock-in period which isn't necess...

Re: KMS-30 tape sync - only as tight as the original master?
I want to use the Korg KMS-30 with an audio sync signal (FSK on a track in my DAW) master that will then generate MIDI clock and DIN sync, essentially as a "Poor Man's Innerclock" device. Here's what I don't understand - the KMS can only stripe that sync signal when it's driven by another device in...

Re: Minibrute Meet The MS-20 Mini
I am planning to buy the new old Korg, and I'm wondering what I could achieve by pairing it with my Minibrute via CV? I know I'll need some kind of voltage translator, but once that's done, what could be fun to try? Not sure what anyone could suggest beyond the obvious... You're as adept at inter-s...

My RCA is on the fritz, and the Telharmonium is in pieces in the garage... but when they worked, they were amazing.gopherbroke wrote:thanks. I don't worry about typos on internet forums.Thank you, Sir. do you have either of these units?
