Go to my Virb page at http://www.virb.com/greatunwashedluminaries and listen to "Paths" from my Wield album. The first sound you hear is the MG-1 organ. I kinda liked it. . I love that track, RCJ, especially the square wave organ intro, followed by the contained explosions of the snares and that re...

Nick Rhodes of Duran Duran has used a K2600 live and in the studio for at least the last five years. That should be enough of an implicit endorsement for both the device's versatility and reliability.

. To wit . . . Richard Barbieri now uses his old 2 1/2 octave YAMAHA CS-01 monosynth on tour for lead lines. That extra 1/2 octave really does make a difference when you are a keysynth player. For example, I like to play block chords -- organs or pads -- in the right hand with a 4th or 7th going on ...

Shrinking Keysynth Keyboards

. Hi. Why, today, has the two-octave keyboard become an industry standard? I notice this has become true, not just with controllers, but with many small synths, too -- i.e. the KORG microX and NOVATION Xiosynth. During the late 70's and early 80's, the 2 1/2 octave keyboard was the rule -- i.e. the ...

. KORG's MonoPoly and PolySix, followed two decades later by KORG's MS2000 and microKorg, are like perfect synth bookends for quality, affordable, performance synths. ROLAND's Jupiter 8, followed two decades later by ROLAND's V-Synth, are like perfect synth bookends for quality, expensive, studio dr...

. My Electribe, being the bassline and general pattern sequencer, is the center of my MIDI rig; I use its In and Out and Thru to control my drum machine (to synchronize its beats to the sequences) and my synth (to control its arpeggiator and delay rate). btw: If I ever do expand beyond this set-up, ...

My EA-1 mkII will sometimes, during pattern playback, fall into a wobbly and sour sounding state of portamento even though the knobs remain solid and tight. The Portamento knob must be kept at "0" at all times to prevent this glitch from occuring.

Electribe Knob Hyper-Sensitivity

. Hi. I have had my Electribe EA-1 mkII for a little over a year. The chasis and knobs are as tight and solid as on the day I opened the box, but . . . . . . I have found recently that the Portamento will kick in on a playing sequence -- making it all wobbly and sour -- if that knob is set anywhere ...

My studio partner and I have used a headset mic pumped through a KORG Electribe EMX-1, which can produce a lot of vocoderish effects. This is a cool trick when we want something more undefinable than the standard vocoder of my microKorg.

500th Post!

CASIO MT-70 -- this preset synth with 345-note sequencer and analogue drum unit has the cleanest sounds I have heard from any 80's-era portable keyboard. No buzz, clips, or bleeps, just pearly sine wave goodness that takes effects like a champ!

:)

p.s. This is my 500th post!!!

RonP, this was announced over a month ago at NAMM. I'm not big on it really. I'm happy with the MD. . Ah, well, . . . . . . this post was posted this a.m. -- pre-coffee! btw: The SR-18 (unlike the classic SR-16) features battery operation. This feature fact gives me G.A.S. .
