Re: Yamaha Reface
So if you lose the breakout cable you don't have MIDI? That's just brilliant... So don't lose the cable. :dontknow: It's a little known fact that even synths with regular midi ports won't work if you lose the cable and don't have anything plugged into them. Would you prefer that they didn't have mi...

Re: Advise on Mixer Choice needed
I wanted a similar thing a while ago and ended up using a Urei DJ mixer. Had true stereo fx sends but only stereo line ins on the channel, I solved that by multing the mono units to go in both sides of the stereo inputs. Worked really well and sounded great.

Basically yes it'll work, but as you say it's not the best way of doing things.

Re: Korg Might Be Up To Something.
Full-sized Oddy seems about right, just like they did with the MS-20. Then later after the limited edition one has sold out use the same boards for a bigger desktop version.

Re: favorite wavetable waveforms?
One thing that could be worth trying is instead of making your wavetables by thinking of them in the amplitude/time domain, consider building them additively in the amplitude/frequency domain and then convert them to a single cycle amplitude/time wave. Much more interesting harmonic results in that ...

Re: Rossum Electro Music - E-Mu coming back?
Thanks for the translation Weirdofromouterspace, confirms most of what I thought.
I think a Z Plane filter in modular format could be pretty amazing with all the modulation options available. Kind of like how wavetable oscs are great in modular form.

Re: Rossum Electro Music - E-Mu coming back?
Ah but he's talking about a Euro release, and in the Euro world analogue has been very thoroughly explored and a lot of the new designs coming out are pushing the edges of digital design.
Personally I'd put my money on it being a Euro Z-Plane filter or something like that.

How does that make you feel?Swayze wrote:That sounds about right. This also has mainstream written all over it. I can see Taylor Swift playing one of these just like she plays the guitar...same goes for Lil Wayne.

Rossum Electro Music - E-Mu coming back?
Anybody else seen this: https://www.amazona.de/interview-dave-rossum-e-mu-teil-4/9/ English version isn't available yet but it appears that Dave Rossum of E-Mu Systems is coming out with some new stuff in a few months. Looks like digital Euro stuff to start off with, with the possibility of analogue...

Re: Yamaha Reface
They're marketed to the same 18-34 year-olds who bought a gajillion microKorgs. They'll all play one or two-finger melodies at home or in a likely horrid indie-rock band that I won't understand (because I'll be able to name six bands I thought did this better in '87, or worse, the members will dres...

Re: BEGINNER SYNTH ADVICE
you should consider software a DAW like ableton live or Fl studio, etc..., that way you can get access to synth sounds and percussion on the cheap (some are free) since you just want it for recording. Yep. I'd be looking at getting a midi controller with a keyboard and drum pads, and a copy of Able...

Re: favorite wavetable waveforms?
A bit off topic, I can't imagine a need to store a square or pulse wave as a lookup table (unless you want to do a non standard square.) A simple formula: if (phase<512) { return 0; } else {return 65535;). I don't think there's been a perfect square that's ever come out of a synth oscillator ever. ...
