I record vocals at home in a makeshift vocal booth which is basically a couple of queen size doonas draped over a frame. Has been good enough for released stuff, and the room the booth is in sounds pretty nasty. If I can do it so can anyone.

The iMac will have plenty of grunt for audio applications. I was using a G5 iMac for audio work and got a Macbook last year which I'm still using. My Macbook is about on par for processing power with the dual G5 Powermac in the studio at work, and the new iMacs are more powerful than my Macbook. It ...

The flange/roll thing you guys are talking about is called note repeat and it's on every MPC, it's one of the best things on them.

I think the best synth to learn on is one with complete manual control, ie no presets or patch storage, and a fairly simple voice structure. The Juno 6 is the best to learn on IMO, and sounds so nice you won't want to sell it once you've mastered it completely and want to get something more complica...

The 2500s pads are way better than the 1000s, possibly worth the difference in price just for the better pads. This, yes. The 2500 is still relatively compact but just gives you more of an idea of sturdyness and quality. I've had the 1000 - it's heavy, but the pads are stiff, and someone who has op...

We use Slayer 2, it's pretty good if a little bit cheesy, but in a good way.

If you're happy with your eurorack and you want to save money then stick with behringer. Just buy it from somewhere where you can take it back if there's a QC issue. Behringer mixers don't sound all that nice compared to some more expensive gear, but if you're not using the mic pres and not putting ...

The newer models are much easier to live with and the extra sample time is a godsend if you play live, even if you don't it's great to not have to worry about running out of sample time. The 2500s pads are way better than the 1000s, possibly worth the difference in price just for the better pads. I ...

I must be in the minority cause the sound generator is my least favorite thing about my x0xb0x. If it wasn't for the sequencer and how it sounds through a metal distortion I would have sold it ages ago. Still might sell it though, if someone can afford to buy it off me.

many thanks! the real time overdubbing looks pretty cool to me... have any of Roland's older SP samplers had this capability? i also like the footswitch input, which is something i wish my ESX had. overall, i rather like it. i just wish Roland would get a clue on some age-old issues, like the lack ...

We've used software synths and effects as part of our live show in the past and it's gone without a hitch. The system we use is super stable, it being: Macbook Motu 828mkII Ableton Live as host V-Synth as midi controller Firewire drive for data. Don't really have any other advice to offer apart from...

The HR16 has unreliable triggers that are usually on their way out by now. It would be a bad choice to get one. Also, I can't remember with the HR-16 but the SR16 doesn't send midi information out when it's pads are hit.
