Anyway, I was just trying to present the facts in a clear, unbiased way but you had to turn this into a mac v pc thing, congratulations. I suppose my view may be biased, but so is yours. You feel more comfortable using a Mac because you are used to it and I'm more at home with a PC - considering th...

I always thought macs were pretty neat for having the core stuff, did windows add something like that for vista (it was mentioned in a report windows released one time) or did it never make it in? Don't know actually, we're not even thinking about looking at looking at Vista for our windows machine...

There's nothing to support Mac > PC when it comes to audio and MIDI - that's all to do with the software you use or the sound card/audio interface you have. Actually there is something, it's called core audio and core midi. Audio and midi functions are built right into OSX so applications can acces...

If you don't care about polyphony I would suggest a DSI Evolver, it gives you quite a a palette to work with, 2 x DCOs 2x wave tables Oscs, analog filter, digital filter and a ton of neat features at under 500 dollars. Decent Midi spec too. -d Totally! From the orginal description an evolver would ...

About the misconfig: In ableton, there should settings somewhere that it tells ableton what sound card driver to use. always use M-audio ASIO or wherever the ASIO word appears. Sometimes, it uses the default Direct Sound driver, which may or may not be the ASIO one, so to make sure, just "force" ab...

Half normalled only breaks the original connection when you put a jack into the input (bottom row). As far as I know there are no advantages to having a fully normalled patchbay, it's just a historical leftover. Half-normalled means if you put a jack into the output the signal splits, so it's still ...

I have really low latency with my Macbook and a Motu 828mkII, but most people who own PCs don't want to hear about Macs. To give you an idea of how low the latency is, we run vocals through effects in Live when we play gigs and you can't notice any delay, although there is one, it's just really short.

If you're trying to get a good, melodic vocal sound, then you need to update your gear. If you're trying to get a New Order-esque "talk vocal" then you should be ok. Putting any signal through a mediocre quality mixer will make it sound like s**t...especially from a mediocre quality mic. I'll grant...
