Re: 4/8-Track Recommendation?

An obvious question is what the supply of the cassettes these machines work best with is like these days. It's been a while since I've looked for them, but I'm guessing the cassettes you could easily find in the last few years probably weren't the best.

Re: Would you buy a CS80 if re-released?

If Yamaha re-released the CS80, would you buy one? What's the maximum (realistic) price you'd pay? Not me, because I'm not likely to have the money to blow on one thing that costs that much. And an actual CS80 reissue wouldn't be cheap. The list price for the original was 7100 bucks. In 1978 dollar...

Planet P Pink World Equipment.

I'm in the middle of discarding a bunch of old music mags, one of which includes a late '84 interview with Tony Carey. According to the article the keyboard lineup for Planet P Project's 1984 double album Pink World was a Jupiter 8, DX7, PPG Wave 2.2, Minimoog, Yamaha grand piano, Hammond organ, Rol...

I'm surprised the Whitehouse guys weren't worried about getting cooties from Cosey, or whatever the UK equivalent of cooties is.

Ryuichi Sakamoto used one on his 1978 debut Thousand Knives of Ryuichi Sakamoto. It also appeared on Yellow Magic Orchestra's self titled debut.

I'd never heard of this weird and haphazardly animated show before stumbling across it on YouTube, but it does have a cool theme.

Re: Keyboards in Promo Video for "Video Killed the Radio Sta

The most likely answer is that Zimmer was going to be a Buggle, but didn't click with Downes and Horn, only staying around long enough to be in the video. Not unlike what happened several years later, when Eddie Jobson was a member of Yes just long enough to be seen briefly in the "Owner of a Lonely...

Re: John Carpenter talks gear.

Synths have followed the same path as electric guitars. The early users were on the cutting edge of technology and music. At a certain point the instruments became widely used and sophisticated enough that a conservatism took hold of a significant number of users, and the idea of "Where will we go n...

Re: Will Dave Smith reissue the Pro One?

I would imagine there's zero likelihood of Yamaha doing a Pro One. They can't even be bothered to introduce a new VA synth or dance oriented products to compete with Korg and Roland, so it's even more unlikely they\d do a new version of someone else's design.
