That's definitely an instrument that would cost a fortune to recreate, and probably sell in the same tiny numbers as the original because it would cost a fortune. I hate to think of the trouble it would be to incorporate MIDI.

Re: Korg to release ARP Odyssey

As an electrical engineer I often stated that reissuing old analogs was unlikely due to cost, then Korg made me eat my words with the MS20 mini. Of course 35 years ago the price of an MS20 was only $800...it was a budget synth even then. However let's consider what Dave Smith said at a NAMM 2014 ro...

Re: New stuff from Roland!

So, will the System 1 drive down the price of Korg MS2000s? It's sort of a modern version of the MS. I wonder if Roland will consider a 37 or 49 key version. I suspect the answer is no. Continuing the comparison I doubt we'll see a rack version, or a "System .5" with minikeys a couple of years from ...

Re: New stuff from Roland!

It might be a good idea. I suspect the current thread over at Gearslutz will crash their server sooner or later. Should be at least a 300 page thread before the actual debut date, and another 200 pages should be added in the hour or two immediately after they come out next week.

Re: Small sampler. MPX8?

|Don't forget that the MPX8 does not sample itself. It's strictly a playback unit, so you'll have to download samples from someplace online, or roll your own with something like Audacity or a DAW.

Re: What synth is used for the pew pew sound in this song?

Yeah, it's Synare, Syndrum, or similar unit. The Simmons SDS 5 didn't enter production until 1981. \Yukihiro Takahashi used Pollard Syndrums and the similar Ult Sound DS-4 with Yellow Magic Orchestra, as can be heard in this live version of "La Femme Chinoise." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDnmFT9...

It will be a bunch of whining, even if it turns out the new pieces are terrific.

Re: TD - White Eagle Sequence ? - PPG?

Well, it is called "Overture." I wonder if Jarre originally planned to include a studio version of it on Magnetic Fields, but left it off due to space considerations, or for some other reason.

Re: TD - White Eagle Sequence ? - PPG?

Here's a version of "Speed" which has a slightly slower tempo than the one MIcke posted. Appears to come from the same EP. Could be a case of speed differences between turntables.

Interesting bit of trivia: Aira is a city in Japan's Kagoshima Prefecture. I wonder if there's any connection.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned it was 16 note polyphonic at a time when most polysynths were 8 note or less poly.

Hawkes is also quite the mult-instrumentalist. Besides keys he plays sax, guitar, and in recent years has done an album of Beatles covers on ukulele.

The trailer for XTRO could just about be given an R rating itself.

If I remember correctly all the synth sounds in the Dark Star soundtrack are VCS3.
