Re: Keyboards and synthesizers in Progressive Rock
FYI there was a mid '80s Canadian band called Refugee which could cause confusion if you're trying to find stuff by the Moraz Refugee.

Re: Korg lp10
Wakeman's philosophy was quite obviously why have one keyboard when you can have five. And its interesting how at the time Korg had arguably the two kings of '70s rock keyboard, Wakeman and Keith Emerson, as endorsers.

Can't have a thread about oddballs without mentioning the Davolisint. http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/nov06/a ... lisint.htm
They don't get much more primitive than this early Italian jobbie.

Re: Elka Synthex "Laserharp" sound... How?
FYI volume 15 of Make magazine has an article about someone who built their own laser harp, so you might want to check out your local library or magazine shop to see if they still have a copy.

The '700 is basically a JX3p if I'm not mistaken if that's any help.

Re: Prophet five rev 2
I don't think there was any CMI on QE2. There's certainly no really obvious sampling on the album. Much of the polysynth work on it was probably Yamaha CS80, which I think album producer David Hentschel was a fan of. Getting back to the main topic of this thread Oldfield sideman Tim Cross was presum...

Since we're talking about Downes he must have been the first musician to tour with a CMI.

Re: Can I hook the Roland JV-1010 into my electric guitar?
You need either a Roland guitar synth or compatible MIDI converter like the Roland GI20 to use a Roland GK3 pickup to control a synth. But if you mean actually running the output of your normal guitar pickups into the JV1010 you can't do that, as it doesn't have an external sound input.

Re: YMO Lead
The second tune in the original post is from the Greek Theatre gig in '79, opening for the Tubes, which has been released on video and CD, and can be seen on Youtube. The synth leads on that tour, if the vids are anything to go by, were all ARP Oddysey, a black and orange panel version with PPC pitc...

Do you need sounds like a realistic acoustic piano? You won't get that from a Micron. And this thread will probably get moved to Buyers Guide soon.

Re: ARP 2500 examples
But wasn't the ARP 2500 in Close Encounters just a prop, with the actual sounds done on something else?
The French composer Elaine Radigu does most of her stuff on an ARP 2500.

I do believe we had a thread about this before, but never really came to a definite conclusion what was used.
