Re: Yamaha Reface

It's fake! The control surface is literally the VL1, cut and pasted onto that fake Reface ( I own VL1 and VL7). The screen and buttons are all wrong at this scale - but in any case - they are literally a reduced cut-and-paste job! No it's real, they designed it to look like a cut and paste job just...

...all synthesis types except real analogue, 6-Operator multi-waveform AFM, RCM and FSDP, that is.

In my opinion we'll not see VL any time soon because it needs a breath controller and they don't make those any more. I own VL1 and EX5 and believe me - they need a breath controller.

There's no Reface VL. The rumours are incorrect.

Re: Synths with both keys and step sequencers?

Korg OASYS and Kronos - polyphonic step sequencer in each synth engine.

For example, AL-1 is 80 note polyphonic - and each voice has its own step sequencer - so that's 80 step sequencers (very powerful if controlled on a per note/voice basis).

Re: Cheap As Chips

From Yamaha Ireland (now gone) I got: - 3 boxed CS01 IIs ad a boxed CS01 for about £100 - £120 for all four (can't remember the exact price but no more than about £30 each). - VL1 for £800 (when released, and at the time they were £3999 - it was used once by U2 then I got it :-) ) - Ex demo mint con...

Re: What synth should I buy for funk and prog?

The linked video for the King Kong makes a good case for it, while it doesn't quite match up to the analog filters of yore it gets close and the versatility of having nineteen to chose from is pretty dang balls, given that you can probably scoop a KK for a grand or under. Purism vs. Flexibility. Th...

Re: Just how far have synths come in the last 20 years?

- Reliable analogue - Low aliasing VA's - Sample streaming Synthesisers that have exhibited new developments in recent times include the Korg OASYS, Moog Sub 37 and Sub Phatty (these are uniquely different to any other analogue synth around today and represent true 21st century improvements on the a...

Re: Yamaha TG33 - Cool Blue LCD Retrofit for £4!!

Where did you get the cool blue screens for the SY77 and 99?

Are they still available?

I've seen posts across the web that show an arduous process to install - and some horror stories too. Can you point to instructions on how to do it?

Thanks!
Kevin.

Re: CS-50 60 owners

I'd wait to get that tuning thing sorted - being a single channel synth, it'd annoy you I suspect! Unless you try it and find that it's sufficiently "tooked away" form being every used. If it's stable, and you can get it at a keen price, it might be worth buying, with a view to having that last tun...

I agree with mmp - this is an open forum - Bob's as entitled as anyone to be here - even as a representative of a corporate entity - once he follows the forum rules like anyone else. This isn't a forum for just musicians and there is no owness to "explain yourself"- it's for synthesists too (some do...

Re: Greetings From Yamaha USA Pro Music Customer Support

Aside from wanting Yamaha to re-enter analog synth land, this is also a great idea for combining the best of Yamaha's digital synth technologies: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wM6Qkf9js9M Absolutely love this guy - his reviews are simply astounding -and this one shows very well the rich legacy of...

Re: AN1x - Amazing!

What impresses me about the AN1x is the strength of its sound. Basses are VERY strong, pads are smooth, silky and rich, SYNC leads are sharp and edgy just as they are with my MonoPoly. And it can sound very 'moog-ish'. The Aliasing doesn't dominate - yes in the top end if you sustain a note with som...

Re: AN1x - Amazing!

Yes - actually beginning to notice some aliasing in the upper end as I go through the program banks. Nowhere near as bad as the aliasing on the PWM oscillator on my JP80, however. No synth is perfect.

AN1x - Amazing!

I'm a long time owner of the AN1x but have not being using it in recent years. But I'm going through about 100 sound sets downloaded from the Web, bank by bank, and selecting the best for an optimised library (using Derek Cook's excellent an.factory software), and I have to say, there are a lot of s...
