Re: Korg to release ARP Odyssey

@zoomtheline - perceptive! I'm not into current electronic styles per-say - more into older electronic music. But I do buy loads of music, from current older-school electronic artists, film scores, big artists like Moby, Lady-Gaga....(also huge into classical and jazz and compose piano and orchestra...

Re: Korg to release ARP Odyssey

Silicon: - did Rick Wakeman need preset programs on his Minimoog? and: - did not having them affect how he used the instrument? - in what ways? @Re-Member: take your point. So in that instance - don't get an instrument with no program memory - it's not for you. I'm not arguing for an approach that n...

Re: Korg to release ARP Odyssey

when you fill the memory banks, you'll stop exploring. Why? Because - what's the point - you have no where left to store them. This is a bunch of malarkey. You can easily save over any patch you don't use as much, but assuming such a scenario is somehow impossible due to, I don't know, Synth Patch ...

Re: Korg to release ARP Odyssey

Hugo and Cumulus - I just don't agree. Totally get the need for patches - dozens of my synth have them and I'm near on obsessed about optimising sound sets, buying the best out there and so on. But - there is nothing falsely or naively romantic about having the other side of it. Let me ask you - wer...

Re: Korg to release ARP Odyssey

Anybody here think a V-Synth would be better without patch storage? of course not. It would be an utter nightmare, and you say "that's because it's vastly deep and so many parameters" well it doesn't change a thing. It's only a problem downscaled, yes it's manageable on a simpler analog but it's ST...

Re: Korg to release ARP Odyssey

Agree with the above sentiment. If there are any synthesists out there who have never used an analogue synth, and especially an analogue synth with no memories, try it. you will find it is the most liberating feeling; and psychologically a totally different experience (equally worthwhile, if not mor...

Re: Korg to release ARP Odyssey

How faithfully can they recreate it? Does it use any components now not available and requiring an alternative?

And - is there anyone who owned an original MS20 and an MS20 mini? How close to the original is the mini?

Re: Korg to release ARP Odyssey

Ugly little synth. Have no sense of it - does is sound good? I'm a Vangelis fan and know he used one in the '70s - is that the instrument used for lead sounds on Alpha and Pulstar on his album Albedo 0.39? Any well known examples of this instrument you can point to? Finally, this is all very curious...

Re: Seeking a few vintage synth pics

Have you considered emailing the originators and estates of those instruments. Dave Smith, Oberhiem and the Fairlight guys are still around. Perhaps they have official promo shots they's send to you and let you publish ?

Re: Moog Sub 37

Augment - I'd like (respectfully) to disagree with your appraisal of what's important in an analogue signal path! (Would we have it any differently ??) To me, the modifier sections, including LFO, RM, ADSR Envelopes and so on are intrinsic to the character of analogue synthesizers. All of my vintage...

Re: Moog Sub 37

Regarding the paraphonic issue - forget the name for a minute. The Sub37 is a single voice synth comprising two oscillators, one VCF and one VCA. So - every time any key is played, the sound is retriggered. To add something extra, Moog allow you to allocate the two VCO's to two pitches on the keyboa...

Re: Yamaha Tg77

Not - sure - I can't check till tomorrow but I'll let you know. But I agree - the SY77, TG77 and SY99 are fabulous - and the choral sound AutoSeq is among the best choral sounds, still. The basis of many of the sounds you mention is a sample called Itopia - and indeed is incredibly characterful. I u...

Re: TD - White Eagle Sequence ? - PPG?

Sorry for moving off subject - but talking about playing music off speed - have you ever noticed that if you speed up Overture on Concerts of China you get Magnetic Fields Part 1 (or slow down Magnetic Fields Part 1 and you get Overture). You need a Record Player to notice 33 - 45 or vice verse. Inn...
