Re: Microkorg XL
I dunno...As for the look, the jury is out as far as I'm concerned. It kinda looks like an old stereo deck, which is very cool...but then when i start to think that it is cool, it immediately looks like a bedside alarm clock. It doesn't look like it was made by a Big three company at all. It looks l...

Re: What has happend to Yamaha and synthesizers?
Yea, it is a bit sad. Their last real entries into the synthesizer market were fantastic. I guess the simply answer is that they do so well without any synths, that why bother? I think it sucks, but let's face it, Yamaha started off as a music company, but is now so diversified that they need not bo...

Re: what age did you get into synthesis?
I was 20 years old, and a junior in college when i first got into this whole racket. I had decided, through my growing love of elecontric music, that i wanted to get into it. I borrowed a room mates crappy yamaha psr something and started to play. Then, for Christmas, I got a an alesis micron. The r...

Re: Is the MicroMoog really worth a whole lot?
I know I'm probably alone on this, but I wouldn't pay more than 500 or so for a micromoog. Yea i know it has the mini filter and all that good stuff, but i much prefer the sound of prodigy, source, and even the rogue. Those all seem to be tracking in the same price range right now 6-850.

Re: If you were buying today...
I would have to say Voyager. I think we should be so luck as to have one. h**l, even an old Mini would be great.

Making a trade, need some feedback!
Recently, I became sort of unhappy with my setup. I had bought my Little Phatty because I was fairly sure i was going to play out with a rock band, and that fell apart (although it does great bass and leads regardless). So i am basically left to my own devices, making my own electro stuff. I put my ...

Re: The End Of Subtractive As We Know It....
You know, I have sorta been thinking about this. I can surely see the digital stuff trending away from straight VA, but analog seems to be in high demand as well (Moog, DSI, FR, modular stuff.) I wonder if Yamaha is going to finally break its silence and come up with some kind of performance synth....

For a start AC, there seems to be some funky noise (almost of the "white" variety) in that video. I'm not talking about a little harshness that you'd expect with compression, but in the sawtooth sections (and the square too somewhat) it sounds downright terrible. YouTube compression shouldn't screw...

Interesting topic. I heard a clear difference between the three in the triangle and square waveforms (didn't notice any difference in the saws though); I was especially stuck by how brash the Moog's square was. Yea, I find the Moog square to be fairly, well, unsqaure sounding. It tends to sounds li...

Re: What is a cheap analog synth?
They are all cheap (compared to guitars, which can reach obscene prices).

It's basically a Yamaha FB01 synth engine with a keyboard and a quasi-subtractive programming interface. Same as the DS-8 but fewer keys and M1-like styling. Ran on batteries (keytar alert!!). The bad news was that the easier programming meant you lost full control of the operators so really extrem...

I think for myself it was a subconscious process...i had always liked singles by the Human League, Daft Punk, Gary Numan, and Flock of Seagulls, but i was never fully aware of a larger genre of electronic oriented music which revolved around the synthesizer..h**l, I'm not sure i even knew what a syn...
