dude, the an1x was like £1500 when it came out and still now costs around £300...im not sure that counts as cheap...lol x Nah, an AN1X can be had easily for £100-150 if you happen to be looking at the right times. The only synths cheaper are JXs with some luck, some Casio CZs, a few Kawai Ks, a Pol...

microKORG vocoder advice

So I recently bought a mint microKORG for £100 (bargain!) and ended up selling it to a friend who wants to get into synths. I recommended the microKORG and he loved it so much when he tried it I was handed cash for him to take it. Whilst I feel I did pass up a great deal, I think he deserves it more...

I liked the build quality, knobs, interface, flexiblity and look. I didn't bond with the sound so much, hated the key action and the effects were lousy. All in all I don't regret selling mine - it's a good synth and I loved the bass and lead sounds, but I found it lacking for pads and strings. It ha...

Amen.

If you want analogue KORGs, Yammies and Rolands there are plenty on the market. Or wait, aren't they worth the money? ;)

Sonic vomit eh? Is that to say that unlike the majority of synth-based music there happens to be a melody present? Heaven forbid that synth music should ever be even slightly musical. ;) To me what I've heard from Aphex Twin and Squarepusher is more "sonic vomit" than this, but each to his own I gue...

The JX-3P is a good synth and is most likely the cheapest 2 oscillator, analogue poly that you are going to find at the moment. h**l, even the cheapest of VAs are still more expensive. Advantages: - Sounds great (well if you like 80s bright poly sounds) - More flexible than a Juno or PolySix - Seque...

With respect to future repairs, I would argue that finding discreet electronic components will be easier to find than processors. After all, most 30-year old parts can be replaced today, albeit not necessarily with the original part but, rather, with an electrical equivalent. However, finding repla...

I'll say this just once: If you want a Sequential Circuits synth with VCOs buy a Prophet-5 . If you want a modern, stable analogue synth with good flexibility that looks great, seems to sound great and is definitely affordable then get the Prophet-8 . DCOs and VCOs have their place and it's Dave's s...

How is the sound on those? They do seem rather cool. Do you need a conversion kit for US power? The sound is like this . Dirty, distorted and razor-like if you ask me. Much like an MS-20? It's 240/230 V standard so yes, you will need a step-down transformer. It also uses 5 pin DIN for the outputs a...

Don't forget the Crumar Bit 1 and 99! Much like an advanced, Italian Roland JX-3P.

- 2 DCOs per voice
- 2 envelopes
- 2 LFOs
- 6 notes of polyphony
- Patch memory

Quite a catch if you can find a working one cheap.
