ESQ-1 would be great for horror. Here's a cheesy, spooky patch I programmed a while ago on it. Try getting a Juno to do that. ;)

Speaking of John Carpenter he also used an SQ-80 (the ESQ-1's big brother) on some of his film soundtracks I'm sure.

You can't go wrong with an LP or Octave Cat.

The flip side is that just because we own the gear doesn't mean we know all the functions inside out. Do we always need to though? All we need to know is why we use the gear in the way that we do surely? If you only use your MEK to make simple analogue bass and lead sounds is it a crime? Not...

Here's a fantastic example of why having a gear list is helpful: I had just posted my first time on SOS Vintage Gear forums about the JX-3P yesterday. I mentioned it did some pretty cool sync sounds. Now, bearing in mind I didn't have a gear list written yet for the SOS forums another member came in...

If I were going to consider a Prodigy, I'd then be grateful that the LP is out there. As I'm used to assigning parameters to buttons, I wouldn't mind having an LP. Only thing, it's not stereo like the Voyager. The Voyager is only stereo because it has two filters per voice, as does the MEK. The Pha...

Does it have to include 12 harmonics? How many harmonics go into the square-wave generator of an ARP Axxe? I'd only be looking for that many sine waves per voice. Well even if it's only four say that's still 16 x 4 VCAs and envelopes. That's still a h**l of a lot. And, who says digital is more desi...

Cost, cost, cost. Think about it - 16 voices each with say 12 different harmonics...that's 16 x 12 VCAs and envelopes to control them right there. Why do you think most additive synths are digital? It's simply because a fully analogue realisation with decent polyphony would cost way too much to be e...

Well, it's strange. The whole procedure is giving positive results including the last step. It's the last of the 10 minutes of tuning, upper E plays ok, lower F plays ok, so you want to play something finally and... all the middle section of the keyboard gives out wrong frequencies. I guess I will ...

I'd take the Nord - better build, greater polyphony and looks cool too.

I'd help you Jexus, but my Polivoks is visiting a technician right now as he's a little f**k unfortunately. ;) Some really nasty hum problems so definitely beyond me. I miss it already... Anyway I e-mailed Kuzmin personally with a description of the problem I had a while back and he forwarded me to ...

What wiss said. Mix with headphones then listen to the mix on: A consumer CD player with built in speakers, a decent consumer hi-fi, stereo computer speakers, shitty earphones (iPod ones or similar). As many different set ups as you can really! Then just make notes of what sounded good and bad on ea...

On my polysix the attack, decay and sustain don't do anything between 0 and 12 oclock. I think it has to do with in which path the battery acid travelled over the years. On my PolySix the cut off knob only seems to work for half its travel really. And the EG to filter is VERY sensitive too. Could b...
