Indeed good sir, I stand corrected. The shorter the pipe the higher the pitch. Can't believe I missed that. #-o

Re: juno 60 vs jx3p vs polysix.

Just to say quickly that, to me, there is a difference in character between the Juno and JX but it's generally rather subtle. The JX sounds a bit more metallic and more mid-heavy to me - more "in your face". The Juno sound is a bit more balanced, refined, smoother. However I've found the JX is stron...

Re: Quiz: How Well Do You Know Your Synthesis?

1. What is actually meant by a 24dB / octave low pass filter? Describes how steep the filter slope is. The level of the signal is attended by 24 dB more for every subsequent octave, starting at the cut off frequency. 2. Why is the resonance control sometimes marked Q on synths? Q for quality, in th...

Re: If analog synths were being produced today...

I'm offering you a Mopho or a Prophet 08, free of charge. Which one would you take? But you're not, and neither is DSI. People want the flagship, but they can't afford it so they buy the cut-down version. Sure they do, which is exactly my point - consumers buy what they can feasibly afford. I may w...

Guess given that logic nobody would want a Little Phatty or Mopho, would they? I think it's fair to assume that both Moog and DSI sell more of these than Voyagers and PEKs, respectively.

Re: string melody 2...

Not that I'm aware of unless you are prepared to replace the pot or crack the board open to modify the circuitry. This short-coming is even mentioned in Peter Forrest's A-Z of Analogue Synthesisers, so you're not the only one who feels this way.

Re: Which Synth had the best Chorus?

Best I've heard? The 80s Roland chorus (JX series, Juno series etc.) definitely ranks up there. The Polysix chorus is lovely too, but totally different at the same time. Shame it's only mono, but at least you've a little more control over it.

Re: Octave Kitten

Who knows man. You don't see CATs for sale that often so maybe people are trying to push up the prices of the Kitten to compensate? I mean if you're looking for a 1 VCO monosynth I'm sure you could do a lot worse, but the CAT is in a whole different league IMO. On that note I've had quite a few comm...

Re: JX-8P v Juno-60

I owned a Juno 6 (virtually the same as the 60) and currently have a JX-8P. The Juno has 'faster' hardware envelopes, filter same as JX-3p/jupiter 8, as above good for bass and fun to play around with (very immediate). JX-8P is more interesting soundwise (to me) as it's architecture is more advance...
