Re: I got an ESQm!

The ESQ/SQ series are great starter synths IMO. Good choice!

Re: Back due to popular demand, the synthquiz!

I think I'm gonna guess Yamaha CS-30 on this one. I've not really had a lot of experience with any of these boards except the Juno-60, but I don't think it sounds dirty enough to be an MS-20, although it does have a kinda harsh and thin vibe goin' on.

See if it's a Juno or a Mini though...

Re: alternatives to pro tools LE w/ more than 18 inputs

I don't blame you - it's quite clear that Digidesign (well Avid really) are a business trying to get paid for their product, using proprietary hardware to very effectively stop it from being pirated. :thumbleft: Fixed that for you. Oh come on man, the number of offences include: Limiting your track...

Re: PRICES : the most heated yet absent debate

Man this topic has been done to death quite a few times now... There are some ridiculous prices. There are also some reasonable ones. There are some items seem too expensive to many, but are must have due to their classic status, artist association or both. There are also tons of overlooked boards t...

Re: alternatives to pro tools LE w/ more than 18 inputs

that's the plan... i'm just bitter. :? I don't blame you - it's quite clear that Digidesign (well Avid really) are a bunch of money grabbing bastards using proprietary hardware to force you to cough up exactly what they're asking. Unfortunately their software product happens to be really good, and ...

Re: alternatives to pro tools LE w/ more than 18 inputs

I just wouldn't use pro-tools. Each to his own though. I found it just fine for recording in live on the fly...but editing and mixing was a bear in it...and then the track limitations for recording as well (I was using M-Powered). Cubase does all of that easily, and I can use it on my Macs and my P...

Oh yes! Although it can sounds quite harsh if you crank the resonance - not really the same as gritty of course! :D
Btw, Jambo, I liked the "Cars" demo.
Thanks - it's a slightly modified preset.

I'm gonna guess the Roland SH-7. I have no idea why.

Modular actually PM'd me about this before making this thread so I thought I'd post my reply to him here too. Mainly for the videos! :P Hey Modular, I sincerely apologise for the severely delayed response but it's been quite a busy few weeks for me (in synthworld and out!). I intended to reply earli...

Re: So I'm Thinking of Selling my SQ-80

I don't feel like it has much that makes it stand apart from the rest. DWGS waves? 16-step modulation sequencer (and 3 sequencers per timbre at that)? I'm not impling it's better than an SQ-80 but it does have some tasty features. Then there's this: http://www.sonicstate.com/articles/article.cfm?id...

Re: AS Leipzig

Actually i was. I didn't use my own headphones either but the cheaper ones provided by the store. That's probably why then. I'd say it's fair to assume that it'd be nowhere near as noisy through the line outputs. Still there's the build quality and crosstalk issues to worry about so I suppose knowi...

I wouldn't describe my DX7 as mint but it's definitely in quite good nick and there's bound to be a few out there in even better condition.

Re: Korg PolySix - Irratic Behaviour

I've never owned/played with a "vector" synth, but I always wondered if vector synthesis entailed more than just mixing 4 parts with a joystick. Considering that the D-50 had a joystick which could be used to mix the 4 partials, but it was never considered a vector synth. But, if it's just mixing/c...

If the MS-2000 is something you'd use more then yes, it's definitely a trade in your favour. I'd spring for the keyboard version though.

Re: I want a ARP 2600 so bad!

I'll jump on your cheap synth fun-time bandwagon here. I just picked up a Prophet 5 rev 2 that appears to be in great physical shape with all of its insides intacts but does not power up, for $500. From a guitar center no less… It’s in the mail so I’ll start another thread and break out some pictur...
