Re: what are some good affordable rack mounts?
As for DX7 vs TX81z: the TX has 8 operator waveforms iirc, the DX7 only has 1 (a sine). You need like 2 or 3 waveforms on a DX7 to create what's a single operator on a TX81z, possible by also sacrificing the only feedback loop you can have, so the reduced amount of operators in the TX isn't all that...

Re: LuSH 101 Multi Timbral Synth
Not quite sure I understand the point of making a soft synth multi-timbral. Maybe it's supposed to save memory or CPU. There's a point when notes/controllers come from external MIDI sources rather than the VST host. In that case you route a whole MIDI-device to a softsynth using output "to all" or ...

Re: To 2013 and Beyond!
Not much wrong with the FM8 GUI, I'd say.. I just don't like using a mouse for synth editing or spending ages mapping a Midi controller. A hardware FM synth maybe based around FM8 with a killer UI would be awesome. That'll be an expensive machine then; there's hundreds of things you can tweak in FM...

Composers Challenge - CS_TBL WINS!!
Ok, a shameful 390-trip (and a nod to that sticky thread here), but: http://composerschallenge.wordpress.com/vi/the-results/

Re: Are there any "extinct" synthesizers?
*cough* .. I could see all these 30 gold-edition Moogs being stolen (by the same kind of cons who steal copper from railways) and melted into bars. The rest is then probably thrown away.
Or is this too evil to think about?

Re: Heart/Brain of your setup?
This "what are you running" question can result in lists of all possible DAWs (Cubase, Sonar, Ableton, Logic etc.). It's still up to you to choose the one you like best, as there is no "the best".

Heh, 30 pieces for resellers world wide. The music shop I write for will get one - the only one in The Netherlands! I do know it's going to be an expensive SoaB!

Piping in here again, it looks like I discovered that the central table in front of the couch has a sweet spot for wifi, whereas everywhere else internets is teh fail in this apartment. Some posts ago there was a question why all these ITB/VST/digital people come visit VSE if they think modern/digit...

Couple o' months ago there was a challenge, something like user ideas being shuffled among users. It was never properly finished though, as in: there've never been results afaik.

Re: CS 80 sounds on a budget
FM8 Working on the Blade Runner intro (the credits and the LA overview part, including the explosions, the dulcimer glissandi, the whole yadayadayada), sounds pretty perfect and has 1:1 timing. Not ready yet, need the scroller part still. Anyway, the 'magic' of the CS80 is mostly the quality of enve...

Re: Ponies that can walk on their tail
Unless the synthesis model is really limited (303 etc.), there's no such thing as a one trick pony in my book. It's all up to the user to use a synth in a specific (or unconventional) way. With a good supply of external effects, even a 303 could be used in a totally unconventional way.
