Re: Image Line Autogun VSTi - it's free right now

Let's calculate how many sounds an FS1r can produce ^^ Is that plugin some sorta presets-only pack of Ogun sounds(or any other synth of theirs)? It's basically a good idea, I wish something like that for FM8 would be made, where end-users can 'compile' a presets-only VSTi from a buncha FM8 sounds, e...

Re: FM8 remixes

The basics of a sound are usually done rather quick, after that it takes quite a while to get a sound really right. And with 'right' I mean: correct sounding across the keyboard's full range, correct sounding across the whole velocity range and correct sounding when dealing with controllers. But it ...

The Music of the Night (Phantom of the Opera)
Andrew Lloyd Webber (yes, I know about the Lloid typo, not gonna fix that until youtube offers to replace a video without loosing the ID and the reactions etc.)

Re: My first synthesizer.

Well, I'm not going to reveal something new here when I say I recommend FM8 :D It's not free, but considering the quality and functionality it's not expensive either. I found my copy for 149 euro ex 19%VAT, but incl. shipping. http://www.youtube.com/mvsmsx for examples. FM is for the brave, as there...

Re: My first synthesizer.

You want software or hardware? The software route is safe for beginners, you can download plenty o' free VSTi's and experiment with 'em. After you've learned sound design and chose a favorite synthesis method (analogue, FM, samples etc.) then you can safely think about buying a hardware version of i...

Re: hardware noob! What to buy? How to record?

to create dance orientated synthy sounds good synth + good sound designer = good sounds A synth is supposed to be an all round machine that can create anything. There is no dance synth and no non-dance synth. Let's not label a certain synth, which some artist uses, as a 'dance synth'. Instead, you'...

Re: Is there any money in the sample DVD business?

Ok, forget the acoustic stuff. FM would be more practical for that (and samples of course, but synthesis is more fun :P).

Still, many sounds could be so much more organic and alive, 'human' if you like.. and often enough you'll find the simplest and most dull sounds on big name libraries.

Re: Is there any money in the sample DVD business?

I wasn't referring to loop ticks (sound designers doing that should be pulled through the paper shredder anyway). I was referring to the actual content. To stick to actuality, big name sound designers are a bit like big name composers doing autopilot-songs for the Eurovision Song Contest. I mean, yo...

FM8 remixes

Rather than a thread per tune, I'm sticking to this one from now on. These are all pure-FM8 remixes. Made with multiple instances of FM8, and nothing else. Not even an EQ or effect from the DAW. Purpose is to show that FM(8) can do more than just bells, basses and odd stuff.. :P --- previously relea...

Re: Is there any money in the sample DVD business?

Effects, S&H madness and such things are actually a sign of sound design n00bness. I can teach a monkey how to twist a few knobs on a modular, what you get are odd impractical sounds. Now, to make a lifelike organic and usable sound is something else. There are a million ways to make an odd blurp or...

Re: What makes a synth famous?

Something which was probably not even based on sound, but on fear. The sorta fear that synths and early samplers ignited among traditional players who feared for their job.

Re: Great free VA softsynth Minimogue

Just tried that Ionic Performer VSTi. Let's kidnap the designer and stuff him in a piggybank. It would fit I'm sure, and it matches the size of his brain. Why oh why do these crackpots think it's funny to look at these tiny buttons and an even smaller font? It's completely unusable because of this. ...
