Re: Purchasing advice needed
As you mentioned, I do want to manipulate samples like the internal patches; however, being stuck to rack-mounted sampler controls is what I'm trying to stay away from. I just really like the hands-on approach of the MC-909 as well as its decent synth engine and adequate sequencer. On the other han...

Re: Purchasing advice needed
The editor would be able to simulate some limited multi-sampling, by setting each layer range, limited to 1 sample/zone per tone. Talking about the ability to manipulate samples like the internal patches, sounds like a proper sampler which would be able to build a waveform out of multiple samples is...

Re: Need help with a sequencer.
And the patttern map function. So USEFUL for song composition. Best feature ever on a groovebox if it means the Megamix, it's sadly missing from the 909. Also the RPS is not useful for sequencing..which is really a step down from their earlier workstation/groovebox. they should've really improved u...

Re: Need help with a sequencer.
a Peavy PC-1600 slider box to use with my RS sometimes That's a decent set up, exactly what the RS needed. I'm using the X-station for both the MC and RS. Something like the Novation SL MKII or Akai MPK49 look very interesting for being used with both. Since both has a proper set of drum pad, missi...

Re: cheap interesting synths
WavestationSR and the E-mu Morpheus are sometime being sold for cheap just because of the "looking through the Key hole" type interface. With an editor or a controller, both are actually wonderful hardware. The WavestationSR sounds way better than the Legacy Digital, which I also like. I have compar...

Re: What Vintage Synth Would You Like to See Back in Production?
I would like to see something with the glory of 12 bit or early 16 bit sampler and drum machine, with real analog filter, using current technology. Also some funky and dirty 8 bit machine, in an easy to use portable device with some sampling and a fun to play interface. Something like the Yamaha SU1...

Re: your drum machine
It's also very deep, but just too polite, no matter what I did to it. I sense that you must be very happy with the EMX..how's the EMX sound compared to the MC-909 when the tube is being turned off? I spent about 10 minutes with an MC-808 in a store and that was way more than enough for me. Haha, si...

Re: Purchasing advice needed
I've always wanted an old Akai S-6000 (which I'm sure is a billion times better than the MC-909's sampling capabilities), but I want something that is really hands-on with lots of dials/knobs/etc. to control it with. Any ideas? If multisampling is important for you, the MC-909 won't do it. It's mor...

Re: Yamaha's Drum Machines
Real time recording in the pattern sequencer is again, both easy and straightforward. As well as the quantize, swing, tempo change, click volume control, delete, etc. But the non graphical step recording might need a lot of training. The song sequencer is simply a pattern chain sequencer. It can be ...

Re: Yamaha's Drum Machines
Editing is surprisingly straightforward and fun to work with and actually one of the most enjoyable to me. - Bend: controlling Rate/Range, works well with the single value data to produce real time sound experiment. Other thing that I like is that the quality of the pitches sound are somehow very ni...

Re: Yamaha's Drum Machines
Just got a near mint, fully functional RX7 and really happy about it..the overall condition: LCD, drum pads, sliders, everything are amazing for a 22 yo device :D a great example of a drum machine which built to last. http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u146/billykurniadi/YamahaRX-7.jpg The samples a...

Re: Need help with a sequencer.
The only other comprable or statistically better unit may be a Roland MC-909, but I have to say somewhere along the line to me it felt more like a workstation than a groovebox. The RS kept the traditional groovebox fun alive for me. I'm using both, side by side. The RS7k sequencer is way better and...

true, I remember the JP-8080 using the older 5V type. the newer 3.3V type is cheaper and easier to find.Zamise wrote:non-standard 5Volt cards, especially on Rolands

Re: Some sampler questions
maybe the yamah SU series. they're entirely designed around using loops. Sometime I wish the RS7k has 3 simultaneous fxs and 8-bit sampling like the SU700. While powerful, to me the RS7k is best as a proper midi sequencer, to integrate midi, internal synth and samples. I rarely do an all sample bas...

Re: Yamaha's Drum Machines
I was just wondering how the RY20 compared with the RY30? It seems the RY20 goes for a lot less money. From what I've read on line it sounds like they produce similar sounds so I was just wondering if I was missing something as to why it is so much cheaper... Old topic back, may be because the RY30...
