It doesn't have a "better" filter, it has a completely different one. The 1st rev white face ones have a 2-pole filter, while the later ones have the Moog ladder or the 4075 (both 4-pole). I really like that "thin plastic" 4075, and the Moog ladder is the fattest of the three. Precisely what I've h...

Definitely keep the MS20. That will be a big part of your retirement nest egg. I would choose the Odyssey over the Cat, especially the earlier white-face model. I found the Cat to be a clunky poor-man's copy of the Odyssey and that's when they were brand new. The white-face Odysseys apparently have...

Thanks, I think I will keep the MS-20 then. As for now, I am leaning towards the ARP, although the reliability issues I have heard about the Odysseys makes me a bit wary... Reliability issues? What reliability issues ? Never heard of any myself. :? Surely nothing worse than any other piece ...

The Korg MS-10 and MS-20 are both known for their fat and dirty filters. Neither the Odyssey nor the Cat will be able to replace that aspect of your MS-20, that's for sure. There is an ongoing debate as to whether the Cat is very closely related to the Odyssey sound and functionwise. Of course, Cat ...

In the previous thread on the Centaur, maindeglorie said he knew the owner of the sole prototype guitar-synth version of the Centaur and that this person might also be the owner of the only keyboard prototype. I have no idea at all if either worked well enough for any recordings to take place, but i...

Welcome to the forum! :) Firstly, this goes in the 'Buyer's Guide'. Secondly, your own very personal ideas of what you like about a synth (redness, firstness, cost etc) is really nothing we can help you with here, that's for you and your wallet to decide. My recommendation is always not to hurry, ch...

Well, dead thread or not, here's the links to a couple of cool pics of the guitar-synth version of the Centaur VI (I think that was the main purpose behind the original thread, no?): http://www.alt-mode.com/AHNE2004/image003.htm http://www.alt-mode.com/AHNE2004/image004.htm http://www.alt-mode.com/A...

Strictly ARP Centaur

OK, this is my attempt to create a thread that focuses solely on the technical history of the ARP Centaur VI. Please contribute any information that you feel is missing, and I hope Psy_Free and Micke would consider re-posting their Centaur VI photos in this thread. Please limit your input to the str...

Most people seem to agree that the Chroma was a major step towards the MIDIfication of synths, which made Dodds (damn I hate talking about him in the past tense!) an important figure in that particular area of synth evolution. But what about the Kurz250? How should one view that synth in the greater...

Ah! A Juno-60! I have wanted one for years as well, but have never come across a good one at a time when it would be convenient for me to buy one. (Short of cash, too expensive, finding another synth that I was more interested in at the time, you know how it goes... ) I can understand your ex...

re ARP , I always reckon it's sad that alan perlman hasn't got some of the credit he deserves. Lots of uncanny paralells with moog .. both of them started innovating with electronic sounds at exactly the same point way back in the early 50s, both from the same New York-jewish background, etc... Yep...

I unplug my gear for reasons of a) safety (it's all vintage) and b) ethical reasons (the environmental consideration being just one of many...)
