Gary has said that the OB-Xa is his favorite synth of all time. Although he didn't start using them until a bit later. Here's an interview from '96 where Numan mentions this. He also talks a bit about the Vox Humana, but it's mainly about how difficult he finds it to keep up with technology. How ab...

That's the one Jo Callis refered to as a 'bitchin' elephant'.

OK then: What is the Multivox Mx3000? Why is it so rare and so special?

Side Note: I recently bought the G-Media "Virtual String Machine" VST Instrument and they have many Polymoog samples but none that does a Vox Humana... Damn! Plenty of nice Solina and other string stuff, helps when you can't buy 10+ string machines. According to this site there have never been any ...

On the face of it, starting a new internet resource might seem a good idea, but I am doubtful. It's one thing to start a page on a fresh impulse, but splinter groups do not generally constitute an ideal base on which to found sound ideas and tolerance. It may seem a ridiculous notion now, but a new ...

Those of us who have always wanted one (which I think I am the sum total) would love to see hi res pictures and sound or video demonstrations. :)
Second that! Welcome to the forum!

OK, I just checked out his site, and it turns out that Gazza will be going on tour performing only songs from Replicas next year! Notice he is playing in Manchester on the 8th of March! Anyone planning to go there and sing for him on his 50th birthday? :D http://www.numan.co.uk/clouds/tourdates.html

Well, Welle:Erdball have been around since '93, but I think the bitpop trend didn't really take off untill a couple of years ago. (I am, as stated above quite ignorant on the subject though.) Swedish mainstream media didn't really take notice of it until about two years ago, so where I live, the tre...

Here's a game you can all play on a rainy day: Spot the SH-2000! Yes, take out your old copy of Replicas (preferably vinyl, but a CD will do) and listen carefully for that SH-2000 sound! Could it be those first infectious notes on 'Me: I Disconnect From You!' or perhaps hidden in the background of t...

That's allright, I'm only half Scottish, and I'd never gamble with my Scottish testicle. Sure, one Scottish ball's as good as two ordinary ones anyway.

To the best of my knowledge, Gary Numan was only using a rented Minimoog* and a Roland SH-2000 on "Replicas" (music recorded in Dec '78 to Jan '79). I'm pretty sure the Minimoog is responsible for the main (bass) riff on "Are Friends Electric". Not sure what he used the SH-2000 for though. Strange ...

Roland D50 does a damn good job at it. Especially if you use better effects externally and switch its own off. The V-Synth also has a reasonably good preset called Old Polly or something. It can be made even better with a bit of tweaking, especially using its LA Sawwaves in one oscillator; along wi...
