Cool. Thanks.

Re: Digital oscs, analogue filters?

The Poly 800 generates square waves only, using a MSM5232 IC. I don't know the technical details of how this IC functions, but it has a set of square wave outputs at multiple footings, driven by a programmable timer which is in turn controlled by the CPU. The Poly 800 combines these into "sawtooth" ...

Re: Which synth shall I purchase for analog 80's sound?

Well the Cabs, when they got into the 80s and even into the 90s, were pretty modest with their synth setup - Juno 60 and 106, DX7, Emax, Matrix 1000, SH-09, 303, 808, 909 (back when they were cheap), S1000 (back when they were expensive) and a bunch of old 70s beatboxes. You can hear the Emax and Ju...

They use CEM filters, don't they... do you know how the process works? It's not simply an audio input, is it, it's something to do with using the samplers as effectively external oscillators, I think, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Really? Not that I did not know! Interesting.

I think both the -3 and -5 are very firmly digital.

Digital oscs, analogue filters?

I wonder if we could compile a list of synths using digital oscillators and analogue filters... By digital oscillators, I mean either sampled waves or wavetables or waves generated by other methods *not* analogue DCOs; nor simple saw/pulse analogue waves derived from clocked logic outputs, such as y...

Re: Selling my JX-8P in favour of a Waldorf Blofeld?

Perhaps the SY-77 is something to consider. I had an SY-77 and it was a total, utter, beast of a synth. More FM algorithms than the DX-7, multiple waveforms, and samples. Patches made of 4 layers (2 FM, 2 sample) and you can use the samples as FM waves. If you want seriously epic, I suggest you chec...

Re: Selling my JX-8P in favour of a Waldorf Blofeld?

The addition of the VS waves would be nice, I'd admit. Do the encoders on these synths cause as many problems as everyone claims? I had no trouble at all with the MEK. The original rack version of the Waldorf Microwave had analogue filters but otherwise is more limited than the subsequent models. M...

Re: Selling my JX-8P in favour of a Waldorf Blofeld?

I was in a similar position last year, with a couple of Junos, a JX-10 w/PG, and a whole bunch of nice analogues that covered pretty much everything. Digital-wise, I had a DX-7 and DW-8000, I think. The DW sounded great but did not get much real use, so I sold it and bought a Blofeld (partly a space...
