the question that next arises then is: "how much faster is the 5/10 than the 15 and maybe 30?" OK, here goes. From the service books: CS-10 Uses the IG00152 custom envelope IC in the VCF and IG00159 in the VCA. VCF times (fastest only): Attack 1ms, Decay 10ms, Release 10ms. VCA times identical. CS-...

The Behringer 3000 is a decent enough cheap patchbay, but I don't recommend the 2000 (the ones I've used have really stiff sockets). Routing can be a little confusing at first, but you'll get used to it.

Welcome to VSE, Dan. I've thought about buying that hack myself, glad to see it's still available. Any projects planned for other machines?

Someone PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong, but the cs5/10/15/30 are identical internally Not quite. Interestingly there are different envelopes in the things; the CS-15 uses flip-flops and transistors, but the 10 (or 5, or both, I can't remember) use custom ICs. Not sure about the 30 off the top of my...

Someone stated it's cheap sounding but i wouldn't say that. That's just my opinion, having had a CS01 2 CS-5s and a CS-10 all side by side. A friend of mine came over a while back when he was thinking of buying a synth & didn't really know what they were all about, so I demonstrated some of mine. I...

In the late 90s I gave up on electronic music for a while, having lost my way, and took up cello about 5 years later (something still needed expression in there...) and then, without warning, in 2005, I started again with the tech stuff. No idea why, it just happened. Before that, I'd considered sel...

If only. I keep saying "no more" and then see something I can't resist. Or find new things to GAS over. Huh.

Waldorf XT. And depending on how much cash I get thrown, the current list includes new monitors, another MIDI interface and some acoustic foam. Oh, and a memoryman. And a voyager. And and. etc. So just the foam, probably.

This one, presumably?

Using audio signals to trigger clock inputs is always a mixed-result affair. The clock might expect a +5V pulse, whereas audio is AC and less intense, both factors that render it unreliable. It's worth trying - you might find a sound and a miachine that does it - but otherwise you need some way of g...

Rev 3. 8)

The 3rd pic, top left, synth looks like the older edition Roland RS-09 stringer. Note the use of white/grey rocker switches and the F-C keyboard with lack of mod controls.

Moog LP - Osc 1 goes 'ping!' when it hits middle C @ 16' setting. More of a quirk than anything - it's easily programmed around and not worth shipping the synth out for. Mine used to do something like that on the D below mid C at 4'. Apparently it's a calibration data glitch, and generally sorts it...

I find the small clone a bit thin on synths, but then I'm used to a stereo chorus in the line of Roland or Boss. If you want a phaser, the MXR Phase 90 does a decent job. And the Electric Mistress is great.

The CS monos are pretty good, and although I see a lot of negative comments on them (filters are 'weak', only 12dB etc.) I think it's misguided to think of them that way - not all synths have to have a Moog ladder. The Oberheim SEM used multimode filters and that didn't hurt. The CS provide a nice a...

It's not just the tubes, though, is it? The whole circuit has an impact on the sound - if you were going that direction, you could replace all the opamps and transistors too, or swap out some resistors for some bulky vintage 10% carbons. I'm only half-not being funny here, I mean the whole arrangeme...
