For what it's worth, I'm happy with my SM57 as an all-rounder, but the chaps above know their stuff better than I do.

Just to throw a spanner in the works, have you considered a CS-15? They're a good deal cheaper than either the above (about 1/3 to 1/2 price, inc shipping), and are pretty flexible (2oscs, fast LFO, weird glide individually controllable per osc, 2 state-variable filters, 2 vcas, 2 envs, 2 outputs, f...

Nice timing! There's one near me and I was wondering if it would be worth picking up. Time to look at your site...

EDIT: very nice demo.... cheers.

If you're using a Mac, try Sysex Librarian. I think there's a link to it on the DSI site.

Sending files to the Evolver is a doddle - just plug things together, send a file on the right MIDI channel, and the Evo recognises it with no setup required.

My own experience has taught me that half the time you can adequately fudge a sound from various synths, and half the time you simply need the right bit of gear. On the other hand, having a particular setup will not make your music for you, no matter how many timbres you can copy. Thankfully.

That sounds great! I love the second sample, very Jarre (in a good way - I've been listening to Equinoxe tonight). Almost choral, that higher tone. Nice. Thanks for posting these.

Little Phatty mess-around

The result of an evening in with the LP. Not to be taken seriously:

My MC-202 works absolutely fine with a standard, cheap, regulated 9V adapter. I'm assuming the 101 will do the same, as long as you get the polarity right and make sure the adapter is regulated at the right voltage.

I've been trying pedals out recently, and found the following: MXR Phase 90 (new block script edition): lower the input levels and you're fine. Works well for Numan-stylings. Belcat delay (aka Nevada): uses a PT2399 (IIRC) so is not analogue, as some claim, but it does sound OK and is cheap. Could d...

Regarding the snare & clap: Altitude is right I think, it sounds like the noise circuit had popped its clogs in some form or other. Open it up and with a scope check the output of (IIRC) pin 9 on the second 4006 in the pair... if that's a constantly changing pulse (ie, digital noise) then at least y...

Re: Cable as per crow, but you could find a standard 5-pin audio DIN lead and that should work. Some 5-pin DIN cables are connected on MIDI only pins (which means they won't work with Sync connections) but others are connected on all pins (which will work fine). The local electonics/spares shop migh...

First thing I did with mine was fill up half a dozen slots with Kraftwerk ripoffs. Hah! Great fun. Instant 'neon lights'.

hmmm.. i've always wanted these old acts (like new order) to make a new album using the cranky old gear. wouldn't that be great? and awful, i'm sure. Rick Wakeman recoreded his album "Retro" using the old gear he'd had tucked away for years gathering dust. I read somewhere loads of keys on his Poly...

I get this too. Seems to be normal. I've had a few tansformers that sound like a box of bees, and some that are almost silent. All my step-downs hum at least a little though. I might measure the ourput voltage one day to check it is what it says it is... Unless it's very loud I wouldn't worry too mu...

What's the silver box next to the EH small stone? It looks like another (worn) EH pedal, but I can't tell which. Might be wrong.

Fantastic pics though. Great to see all that gear.
