Good point - I've seen many drum machines using MIDI note 24 as the first kick, which may well be off the bottom of a standard keyboard when middle C=60.

+1 for delays. Even cheap old digital ones (Digitech RDS1900, Boss PS-2, etc) will do things that sound different to your software.
