Re: Video clips from "classic" movies featuring electr

Thanks Micke - I'd thought I'd heard some LinnDrum in there on DotD , but maybe that was Fairlight.

Re: Video clips from "classic" movies featuring electr

In a similar vein, I watched this last night and liked the score - I'd be interested to know what instruments were used, if anybody knows. This was 1985. I've not heard of John Harrison before, but it seems he did a handful scores, and has turned to directing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQGqUC70...

Re: Modular synth

Exactly my point - the Juno has a fixed architecture that, as a complete tyro, I found took a while to understand - even setting a null/basic patch without knowing what any of it did took some head-scratching. But absolutely, plug a VCO straight into a VCA, even without the filter, and you're off to...

Re: Modular synth

Two things: 1) Service manual = technical information for repair. User manual = how to operate the synth. You want the latter, not the former. 2) If you already have an MS-20, you should be familiar with the basic structure of analogue synth signal and modulation paths. If not, you haven't spent eno...

Re: MF-104M Midi Sync Delay

Apparently there's an ad in the Sweetwater catalogue. Looks just like a Cluster Flux with MIDI, Tap tempo and multi-wave LFO etc, but I'm guessing it has a longer BBD line in it. Take a look at the Moog forum. I recently got an EHX DMM w/TT 1100, which uses 4x MN3005, and from what I gather, EHX gra...

Good point - I've seen many drum machines using MIDI note 24 as the first kick, which may well be off the bottom of a standard keyboard when middle C=60.

Re: Vintage Synth for Joy Division/New Order sound?

Bernard Sumner also had a Transcendent monosynth, which was available either as a kit or ready-built. They crop up every now and then on eBay, at least in the UK. Not sure about anywhere else. Otherwise you could replicate its duties with something like a Yamaha CS-5 or 10, or a Moog Rogue, Realisti...

Re: Question About Akai S3000XL Functionality

The S-3000XL does a lot, but I didn't find it particularly inspiring, myself. I've had an Ensoniq Mirage for nearly 20 years that has bags more character. It's very low-spec, but that's part of the charm. If you want a sampler to play back accurately what you put into it, the 3000XL is probably a fa...

Dunno, could be almost any typical analogue poly of the time, or even your DX.

I've never heard that track before, but I have heard this. Interesting bass line...

Re: Pres, Pedals and more

+1 for delays. Even cheap old digital ones (Digitech RDS1900, Boss PS-2, etc) will do things that sound different to your software. Also, I recently got a Moog MF-105M MIDI MuRF, which can be controlled via software, or even just MIDI notes & clock, and does interesting things with sequenced filters...

Re: Does anyone know is a Roland MSQ700 will work with Juno

The best you can expect from external control of a Juno 6 without modification is clocking of the arpeggiator (in, not out) and voltage control of the filter cutoff. There's also a pedal hold socket, though I'm not sure how useful that would be. The Juno 6 is great for playing and tweaking. Even wit...
