What was the black one with the wooden ends? Looks similar to some Crumar models, but I couldn't quite tell. Any ideas?

Re: New JX-10 Pros/cons/tips?

Actually it's 6/12, not 8/16. Haha, yes, whooops. I was lucky to get mine with a PG-800 and two carts, so no trouble getting used to the tone tweaking. You're right about the presets being a bit less than exciting, but this was the latter half of the 80s, and I think a lot of competition ...

Re: Video clips from "classic" movies featuring electr

Rick wanted to replace a lot of his older instruments for the 1981 world tour, so he ordered a lot of new stuff from Korg including two Sigma's, two Lambda's, two LP-10 electronic pianos, a PS-3200, Trident and a BX-3 organ. I guess some of that stuff made it to the A-side of The Burning soundtrack...

Re: New JX-10 Pros/cons/tips?

I seem to recall something about the JX-10 not responding well to parameter changes over Sysex, but I have never dabbled with that so perhaps someone else can clear that one up. There was a replacement EPROM available from Colin Fraser that fixed a few issues too. Again, something I have never tried...

Re: maplin 5600s worth it ?

The seller said he was offered £2000 but nothing came of it If it's worth anything near that I'll eat all my hats. I'd not pay more than a few hundred, but that's based on instinct rather than market knowledge. i have a friend who has maplin gear and he says it could need lots of work, ive also rea...

Nice. I'll have to try my JX-10 later and see what I can come up with.

Re: Yamaha SY-1

I think preset monos have been under-rated for a long time, so it's nice to see one getting some love. Maybe the Roland SH-1000/2000 are more widely known, along with the ARPs, but I like the simplicity of these preset machines. The patches on my Teisco S-100p sound like nothing I'd ever create myse...

A pleasure. After our conversation I've been looking at VCS3s all day online, to my slight dismay. 8-)

Re: Tascam DP-008 portable multitrack

I had a DP-004 for a while, and thought the overall quality was good - there was a bit of faffing about with file formats and I didn't find the menus particularly intuitive - it wasn't overly complex, just could have been tidier. The main limitation was two track recording, so if there's any chance ...

Re: Jean-Michel Jarre's Favorite Keys

Jean Jacques Perrey, Gershon Kingsley, Mort Garson, and Hans Wurman often get thrown in with the goofy s**t, even though these guys were doing full-on incredible electronic (and even electronic dance) music with synthesizers. In the 60s and early 70s. Not heard of Mort Garson before, thanks. As for...

Re: Roland MC-500 Seq. woes and general confusion

There's a link to some info on system disks in this other thread . I've had an MC-50mkII for ages and never used it beyond switching it on to make sure it wasn't dead... must have a go some time. If it's old sequencers with nice keypads you like, you want one of these (5.25" floppies FTW!): http://i...
