Re: Winter NAMM 09 flood begins

Yeah, I just went to 2.0 a couple hours ago. Ton of new sample based waveforms (though I haven't gone through all of them yet) some enhancements to time trip pad functionality Enhancements to what tone-efx parmaters could be assigned to manual modulation Enhancements to step modulators and appregia...

Re: Winter NAMM 09 flood begins

New Roland VP-770 http://www.roland.com/products/en/VP-770/index.html Wow! Roland are sure putting out a new follow-up to their failed VP-550, with auto-accompaniment features "loops" and "auto-harmony", sounds much like a glorified home organ really. You do realize you're talking about a vocoder r...

Re: Have presets killed control once more?

The Radias is still in production and has the same programming interface as the MS2000. Yeah, I noted the Radias earlier actually. There's a number of pieces Korg is still producting/touting that they claim as geared towards synthesis, of that bunch the Radias is the exception in regard to hands on...

Roland V Update

Apparently Roland will be announcing some kind of V update tomorrow. My guess is that it will be on a 2.0 OS of the V-Synth GT, but one can only hope. Assuming it is a 2.0 OS, if they go crazy on additions the same way they did with the 2.0 OS for the original V-Synth/XT, it should be pretty darn in...

Re: Moog might be considering a new polysynth...

It'd be interesting to see what they churn out for sure.

I do hope they'd go with something different than a 2 or full blown 3 osc version of the LP or Voyager though.

Bringing out their synth that never was would truly be interesting.

Re: On board effects

The V-Synths would "arguably" be another. On an official "Tone Effects" level, your limited to pretty much send amounts (if anything). If you start looking at the fact that what typically would be effects on any other since can become direct parts of the voice architecture of the V-Synth though, and...

Re: Have presets killed control once more?

if it's carried at Guitar Center it's not exactly a boutique synthesizer. the last time i walked into the GC in San José they had a Moog LP and a Prophet 08 right along with the Radias, various Nords, V-synth, Electribes and SH-201. this is in stark contrast to the late FM era when everything new l...

Re: Have presets killed control once more?

As far as in the studio goes, I find I'm in two modes. Sitting and programming or standing and performing/recording. Very few keyboards are in that perfect reach zone for hands on programming where I can access the surface and play it just as easily. Usually it's the newest synth that gets the fron...

Re: Have presets killed control once more?

I don't think its a trend at all. I can name LOTs of recent synths with hands on control: Korg MS-2000 Alesis Ion Alesis Andromeda Future Retro XS DSI Prophet 8 DSI MEK / PEK Moog Voyager Moog Old School Nord Lead Nord Wave Solaris ...and those are in all price ranges Korg is nearly a decade old in...
