Re: Have presets killed control once more?
In all fairness, I've had the machine for about 4 days... (BTW, I completely overlooked these machines until I saw your live set using 2 of them... so I looked again. Very happy now.) So I'll definitely be getting to it eventually :o But again... super uber menu intensive... Yeah, they can be reall...

Re: Have presets killed control once more?
Give people a digital synth with lots of menus, they won't program it, or will try and give up, or do very little programming. Change that wording to "some people".... There were two writings I just happened to have done in regard to programming the P2500/CS in the past.... EXHIBIT A EXHIBIT B and ...

Re: Have presets killed control once more?
Give people a digital synth with lots of menus, they won't program it, or will try and give up, or do very little programming. Give people an analog synth or a modular and they are likely to use it/play it/make new sounds with it. I'm going through that contrast right now... I just picked up a comm...

Re: Have presets killed control once more?
I used to own an SQ-80 (ESQ-1) and I think the reason that Ensoniq got away with such a simple interface was the relatively few parameters. The Poly 800 has one of the ugliest interfaces ever (keypad plus 7 segment display) but it's still fast to program because it only has about 50 parameters incl...

Re: Have presets killed control once more?
Some interesting points made. In regard to some of the modulars and such out there, I can't say I count them in all that much. Reason I don't is due to the fact that they tend to be rather niche products from VERY small companies. With Dave Smith in particular, numerous persons in here have commente...

Re: Have presets killed control once more?
Yeah I just found it sort of odd. You had these synths that lacked extensive hands on control in the past that drew numerous complaints. There was a drastic upshoot in hands on control in the late 90s. And now, though it hasn't gone to the practical nothing that existed during the late 80s/early 90s...

Re: Have presets killed control once more?
If you feel there is a general lack of control with modern synths, design your own. I'm not overly concerned really, it was more just a general observation. Do I find some of the newer designs to be restrictive? Sure, but then again as a noted earlier, there was a substantive period in the past whe...

Re: Have presets killed control once more?
things with extremely limited control sets in regard to the overall architectural depth If you wanted that much control, wouldn't you buy the full keyboard synth? And shouldn't you be speaking about the knobbage on the Prophet 08 and Access TI and Waldorf Stromberg? The Virus series (IMO) has alway...

Re: Have presets killed control once more?
if the song is good, does it really matter? I think most of these come with software editors, so one could dig deeper into them. I am not paying attention to them, there cool boxes with instant gratification for the budget minded. I think the control method to a large degree can determine the resul...

Have presets killed control once more?
With things like the Mopho, TI Snow, Blowfeld, etc. rolling out... things with extremely limited control sets in regard to the overall architectural depth (this is not to neglect mention of a number of MIDI controllers that seem to roll in fairly similar strains)... Is it just me or is control being...

Re: Your Favorite Arpeggiator In A Synth?
The nova has a wicked arp. And don't discount the microkorg's either. Do you have any idea if it's possible to trigger the arp from the nova itself without sending a midi message from something else? I tried to get it to do this for around an hour yesterday, but no luck. The manual is not much help...

Re: Synths w/ Step Sequencers
The V-synth (os 2) have a wonderful value-step-sequencer. 4 tracks just like the evolver, but 32 steps and ability to set it up sliding or imidiate values. This is incorrect, the V-Synths only have 16 step sequencers. Granted the appregiator is capable of working in a step sequencer type manner as ...

Re: Your Favorite Arpeggiator In A Synth?
Tied at number 1: Korg Karma, Triton, and M3 (all of which roll with the Karma system....the Oasys probably does to for that matter) Alesis Fusion (which is an obvious take on the Karma system) Number 2: Novation Supernova II \ Supernova \ Nova II \ Nova Number 3: Roland V-Synth\XT\GT Number 4: EMU ...
