Re: Analog doesn't sound Analogue

turn 'em up real loudy and play um fer tooo hours, then the diff'rens is obvee-us. especially in them high-falootin' fweekencees.: It's about time someone said it. Difference-spotting isn't about a single comparative soundfile on the internet, it's about interacting with the instruments in person o...

Seems like a different spin on the chameleon concept to me....except in a way stranger.....

Re: The gear I've had during the years...

damn I feel good about the LACK of gear I've owned *LoL* anyhow, I'm to lazy to list an entire list, so I'll just hit on the more synth-centric things ALESIS: QS6 Fusion 6HD EMU: CS\P2500 FUTURE-RETRO: 777 XS IBANEZ/ROLAND: Ibanez X-ING IMG2010 KORG: MS-10 ER1-MKII MFB: Synth II NOVATION: Supernova ...

Re: Analog doesn't sound Analogue

For the most part I gave up on the spot the synth game ages ago. I'll play it in rare cases.... if someone tells me "X, Y, and Z were used....now what did what?" At that point the limits of architecture between X, Y, and Z at times make it feasible for me to identify what is doing what. I agree with...

Re: Analog doesn't sound Analogue

I've noticed this too. What synths? I have a hunch, but wondering... The guilty parties in this case were one of my 777s (older model), XS, MFB Synth II, and MC-505/JV. Coincidentally, there was a project I got started on today that had me end up repeating the process, except this time things were ...

The sample memory thing sounds like ROM rather than user samples though, although I hope I'm wrong.
I'm pretty sure they are speaking about user samples.

Analog doesn't sound Analogue

I was working on a bass line the other day, and for really no good reason, I setup a couple different variations of the bassline (In regard to programmed timbre) on a few different synths. 3 synths were analog, and one was digital...a "Rompler" in fact. Now the synths were not at all anything along ...

Re: The End Of Subtractive As We Know It....

I do have to agree with you that the zone thing is weird. From the software developer's point of view, I can see how that happened... someone looked at doing keyboard splits and multitimbral setups and said to themselves, "These are really just two ways of looking at the same thing. We can simplify...

Re: The End Of Subtractive As We Know It....

Yoozer: =D> As far as I'm aware of, the most influential and pervasive software inst./plug-in/vst/softsynth of the last ten years has been AUTOTUNE.... by miles. Followed by Reason and a smattering of other software. And that is very sad - particularly when you consider the other shifts we've seen ...

Re: The End Of Subtractive As We Know It....

I don't think anyone was saying one had to deal with hardware OR EITHER software.... On topic, I agree with you for the most part, I simply disagree on not having good interfaces.... I have to confess, as I (and one other) have noted, I'm pretty darn happy with the V-Synths interface. anyhow, that s...

Re: The End Of Subtractive As We Know It....

i thought pulse was done in live 2.0 (aka the pre midi version of live) :?: while i agree that hardware synthesizers are becoming more complex, i think elements of subtractive synthesis will still remain prevalent in future synth design, maybe morphing subtractive synthesis more than ending it alto...

Re: The End Of Subtractive As We Know It....

True but from what I can tell on other forums kids are starting getting bored with their laptops and pirated software I mean its not as if its had a massive influential effect on todays music and I'll bet something like an Elektron is high on Santas list unless the Korg DS10 becomes a cult phenomen...

Re: The End Of Subtractive As We Know It....

So you are saying the pardigm is shifting toward additive sythesis then? I don't see any other options other than zero synthesis which probably don't sound like much, what a waste of a whole nother paradigm. In my example, it wasn't additive, nor was it zero (my given case was granular). Physical m...

Re: The End Of Subtractive As We Know It....

So, the V-Synth, VAs, Romplers, Samplers & SoftSynths don't have filters or EGs to do subtractive synthesis that help shape their sounds? Or they do but nobody uses them anymore? This is news to me. VAs obviously do. Romplers obviously do. Most soft synths do. And the V may or may not. But again, I...
