Re: The End Of Subtractive As We Know It....

I think analog is pretty much here to stay. There have been lots of innovations, but I'm starting to think software is starting to pave the way for synthesis and sound design in general. When you look at software like max/msp, csound, pure data, composers desktop project, etc. software kind of fill...

Re: vintage gear question..

Well, thats debatable. P8 is analog, PEK is a hybrid, Andromeda... No, it's really not debatable. No one said Analog polysynths ceased to be made, but analog polysynths as a norm have long been out the door. If we were talking cars, what you said here is akin to someone telling me that luxury sport...

Re: The End Of Subtractive As We Know It....

First I should clarify that it's not so much an end to subtractive synthesis that I see, as much as an end to the way it's commonly been done at this point. For example, the Korg Wavestation, with it's wave sequences, though a subtractive synth, had at it's heart something that was quite different a...

The End Of Subtractive As We Know It....

I was sitting and thinking about where synthesis is likely to head, and I can't help but think that the whole go back to analogue (analogue modelled) craze is kinda over. You had the V-Synth that though subtractive at heart, made major strides in directions outside of VA. Access, though to not quite...

Re: Roland JV-2080

Yep, i was able to sign up again! I don't mind software editors, i use the one for my Evolver all the time. I'd probably throw the Techno card in there, but really only for the Industrial kit. All the other sounds bored me. I'd like the Dance card, but they're stupidly expensive now. Basically, i'm...

Re: Roland JV-2080

and oh yeah, personally I wouldn't bother unless I was just looking for a basic tone module. Reason being that the JV's are only going to allow you up to 4 assigned controlls (all the rest will be kept sysex based); which in essence, unless your going a software editor route, is going to make them a...

Re: Tenori-On...

Yamaha says something about being able to load it with samples, what's the deal with that?
And does it have MIDI out?

Ummm, how exactly does the things sequencer work anyhow?

Re: Synthesizers missing on VSE?

I know some of you may not be aware, but you need to keep in mind that an extremely large amount of time went by without updates and that updating resumed not all that long ago.
That said, there's a rather large wealth of additions that can be made.

Just be patient.

Re: Nord Wave, Virus TI, V-Synth...winners and losers

It's rather that I think that those synths are made for different target groups, if someone wants a sampler for home/studio use he'd probably goes for software that is able to handle huge libraries, so the Nordwave is rather targeted to live musicans, Keyboard players who needs a good synth and wan...

Re: Nord Wave, Virus TI, V-Synth...winners and losers

No offense 23, but this reads like a review of the spec sheets, rather than the synths. Sorry if it comes off that way. I'll confess that I tend to be very focused on parts of things, as I sort of look at them as my potential building blocks. I've found that all to often, when I've been told a synt...

Re: The Oakley Sound Systems TM3030 TB clone Review

Just wondering, but what brought on such the high interest in 303 clones? I'm not sure if you have a 303 or not, but assuming you don't, I find your case pretty interesting and unique, as my guess would be that it's literally the clones that interest you more than the original itself. Even more inte...

That's a lot of dough for a rather limited synth.

Re: Nord Wave, Virus TI, V-Synth...winners and losers

Thank you for another very interesting read. As I understand, though, the Wave has a rather brilliant software for loading samples (automatic mapping and looping?) As you mentioned, the GT is somewhat lacking here (does it even allow loading samples at all? I think I read somewhere that all samples...
