Nord Wave, Virus TI, V-Synth...winners and losers

Another In Depth Review/Comparison Things have now gone beyond the world of simple ROMpler, Wavetable, VA, FM, or Sampler.....so with the three hardware beasties that have dared to take things in this direction, I thought it'd be interesting to do some side by side comparisons. *yes, I know things l...

Re: Small error in VSE's information on the V-Synth

That whole write up gets really weird once it moves past the original V-Synth. "The V-Synth GT was later released in 2007 which adds Roland's Elastic Audio Synthesis engine and Vocal Designer technology with revolutionary Articulative Phrase Synthesis technology." This is stated prior to the XT bein...

Re: Analog synths that allow you to the sync LFO to MIDI?

The Future-Retro XS can also do this. The phase of the LFO waveform does not reset when it's switched to (or out of) this mode however. One thing to note is that more often than many realize, "Analog" synths that are doing this don't have true Analog LFOs. And well, that's a BIG part of the reason w...

Re: Nova, Nova 2, Supernova, Supernova 2 ?

ok, so what's the correlation between [supernova II keyboard] and [nova II keyboard] ? the latter being a scaled down in power version of the first one ? reverse engineering ? Yes, like I said, the Nova was a scaled down version of the Supernova. Nova II was a scaled down version of the Supernova I...

Re: Nova, Nova 2, Supernova, Supernova 2 ?

In brief Supernova = First of the Nova line. Rack unit. Supernova II = Second and most fully featured/powerfull of the nova line. (believe they came to make a rack version of this as well.) Nova=Desktop version of the Supernova, scaled down in power to better suit budgets. Nova II = Desktop version ...

Re: V-Synth GT (In Depth Review)

I'll be getting some more demos up later. This first one wasn't even intended to be used as a demo, it was just a lil something I made for a friend of mine. To accompany the review, and sort of explain what went on here: I. I took an audio sample of my friend being kinda silly (video was in Swedish)...

Re: Anime Synth Patches (Macross II, and Silent Mobius)

My obsession with Robotech is beyond beyond healthy.
I won't even state how much money I've dropped into things Robotech releated.....it'd be embarassing.

on that note, replicating patches of things from Robotech/Macross very well may be the one thing I haven't tapped into yet.

Re: Choose Your Favorite Acid Life Setup.

I already own my favorite acid setup. and I've found what that ideal is varies a bit....so it changes time to time. It typically is comprised of: I. 2x FR-777 OR 1 FR-777 paired with 1 TB-303 II. MFB-Synth II III. FR-XS (new piece, but I've been using it consistently during my techno outings) IV. No...

Re: Why do presets universally suck?

I can't speak for everyone, but I know it's not all that rare AT ALL that I'll end up tweaking synths on stage. Sometimes I do it pretty heavily (nearly constantly) Sometimes it's less frequent (but still occurs none the less) Depends on what project I happen to be performing for really. Whatever th...

Re: V-Synth GT (In Depth Review)

Oh, guess I couldn't get rid of the D50 if I bought one, then. I love that synth to death. The XT and original V-Synth (with VC1) card can however. You see me mentioning the different versions simply because there are truly differences between them. So there is the Original V-Synth The V-Synth XT a...

Re: V-Synth GT (In Depth Review)

The D-50 sawtooth shouldnt really look like a sawtooth at all, I've measured it with a scope on the PC. It's more like a shark's fin. Like the SOS guy mentions, it slopes down towards the top. That creates a sound that isn't as brash as a full sawtooth..I guess there is some filtering going on inte...

Re: V-Synth GT (In Depth Review)

Can it load D-50 patches directly? Or must you set up every patch on your own inside the emulation? Yes, D50 patches can be loaded by the original V-Synth (so long as it has the VC1 card) and the XT. And conversely patches can be dumped from the original V-Synth and XT to the D50 (assuming the V's ...
