Re: Access Virus TI or Prophet '08
Alex, there used to be a shop called Sound Control here in the UK that was pretty good for demo-ing stuff. However, they went bust recently. The good news is that a number of the stores are still open, as there were a couple of buy-outs - some locations went to Professional Music Technology (http:/...

Re: Finding songs/bands synth lists
"Shout" by Tears for Fears the breathy synth (solo) Fairlight. The 'Syn Vox' preset I believe The same is used in Art of Noise: 'Moments in Love' Love that sound, remember spending ages trying to program it on my DX7. Check out Synthmania.com, he has a list of famous sounds and their origins.

Re: MIDI 2/ MIDI HD
How about MIDI over TCP/IP? That's essentially already here as there are various programmes that allow MIDI and audio over ethernet with delay compensation. Let's face it we pretty much have MIDI over USB and F/wire as well with the various interfaces we have, and of course Yamaha have tried to get...

Re: Where can i get Curtis filters from?
They are real Curtis chips, made by "Mr Curtis" who passed away recently I understand. The question has to be asked though if the demand from the Vintage buying people is so high why has nobody remade stuff before?? I know I would love to go out and by a synth with SSM 2040 VCF's!!!! So would I... ...

that list is like some of the worst. lol a lot were sold as toys in japan, the little ones. more interesting lists would be "the top ten selling analog poly" "the top ten selling drum machine" etc. etc. Hmmm DX7, D50, M1 - sold as toys? I don't think so. Maybe the CZ101 & the MT32 but I doubt any o...

So it's been a while... Has any of you seen one and/or tried it yet? I'm dying to hear it played live (not demoed). Went along to a Moog Clinic at Digital Village in the UK last week. They had the guitar there, now I'm not a guitarist but I found it quite fascinating. Sounded great. Most of the dem...

Future Retro XS? From the demos I've heard, very good & modern sounding, I like the fact it's semi modular too. Admittedly there are no patches, but with the onboard MIDI and the ability to control lots of other things via the patch points, using a MIDI CV converter for these could probably get some...

Also, did anyone know that it was Will Gregory who played sax on Tears For Fears' "The Working Hour?" There are two saxes on that track. He plays the bluesy solos. They're excellent. Certainly all of us who regularly listen to Sonicstate's podcasts :) (BTW where the h**l is the next one? Been 3 wee...

Tonto. Much of the early 70s stuff was programmed by Malcolm Cecil and Robert Margouleff AKA "Tonto's Expanding Headband". TONTO itself was a massive Moog modular with bits from lots of other synth makers - Oberheim, Serge & ARP. Great clip here : http://www.videosift.com/video/Stevie-Wonder-TONTO-t...

You can also download the Nord Modular Demo for free :D : http://www.clavia.se/main.asp?tm=Products&clpm=Nord_Modular_G2&clnlm=Downloads Its only monophonic, it probably has other limitations I can't recall, but it's a good way to learn. The fact it's monophonic means you can really concentrate on t...

Sounds like a good addition to what looks like a very nice kit list already, Sam. I'm not envious at all. Actually, I'd be interested in hearing some demo samples of this unit. I know Goldfrapp use one quite a bit, but I don't know if it's a sound I'd recognise unless someone pointed it out....
