Re: New Schmidt Analog Synthesizer
I think that's right. But it's also not entirely absurd price when you consider e.g. Buchla prices and this is a stupidly full featured analogue poly. Albeit one that sounds lifeless and DCOish.

Re: WTF, SP-555 price?
You're right. Pretty sure it was around £450 street and now around £640. Roland cashing in on all the bands wanting to be Animal Collective? I always thought it looked like it had a good set of features but the live sampling (while playing sequences) is very limited IIRC. Maybe that's been improved....

Re: New Schmidt Analog Synthesizer
Exactly. When will the big manufacturers (I'm looking at you, Roland, Yamaha, Casio, Fisher Price) start listening to their market and build new synths with toaster slots and holes for sucking the skin off sausages.

Re: New Schmidt Analog Synthesizer
That's all beside the point, of course it's a niche thing. I think designing and building something like this is a personal mission. He'll sell a few to cover some costs and you know, why not? But I get the impression it's really for the sake of building exactly what he wanted with no compromises. I...

Re: Inner Sleeve of Edgar Froese's Stuntman Album, 1979!
Always loved that sound at the start of (and throughout) It Could Be Like Samoa. I think it's probably some PPG wavetable action but sort of sounds like a sampled e-bow'ed 12-string guitar or something.
Yeah, that's the Oberheim.
Yeah, that's the Oberheim.

Re: Inner Sleeve of Edgar Froese's Stuntman Album, 1979!
Is it a gatefold? I have the record but never noticed that pic. I''m guessing this is it though. http://www.edgarfroese.com/htm/prvpics/images/043.jpg http://www.cepelia-sklep.pl/vinylowe_delicje/zdjecia_A1_12/edgarfroest_stuntman_tyl.jpg There's an Oberheim 4 Voice, and a Korg Vocoder (VC-10?) for ...

Really wonder if they can't come up with a better scheme than that. Still it's better than nothing.

Re: Arturia MiniBrute - analog monosynth
Haven't read the whole thread but do you realise the designer has said the MB will have a simple sequencer (no transpose)?

I like those clunky sounds. And let's be honest it's impressive for someone wearing cream slacks and a pink shirt.

Re: Wave indexing on the emu command stations
Protean Drums has it. I've used it to make some crazy sounds before but can't remember the exact details.

Re: Wave indexing on the emu command stations
I think it must have been my mention of that that you saw.
Erm, it is that I think - I'll have to another look - maybe the question is how fine a degree of control over the sample start point you can have.

Re: Arturia MiniBrute - analog monosynth
I wonder if they've built the analogue stuff onto a chip like a mini Andromeda. Would make sense I think.
