Re: How to Overcome Blofeld Distortion Issue?
Not a problem I've heard of. Of course some patches are supposed to distort. If anything the issue early on was that the output level was too low. It's still quite quiet but can need that headroom when a lot is going on. And yes, update the OSs in sequence if you have too. 1.11 > 1.12 > 1.13. Also d...

Re: Coupigny Modular (INA-GRM, Pierre Schaeffer, Parmegiani)
I think there were certain aspects/limitations of the design that were imposed by Schaeffer as director of the Institut so that the use of the synthesiser, something he was slightly dubious of initially I think, would keep in line with the definition and concepts of musique concrete. It was intended...

Coupigny Modular (INA-GRM, Pierre Schaeffer, Parmegiani)
Not sure how much there is to say about this but it's damn cool anyway and I don't think it's been discussed here. The Coupigny synthesiser is a one of a kind built by engineer François Coupigny for the Groupe de Recherches Musicales at the Institut national de l'audiovisuel around 1966. It was inte...

Re: Best VCS3 emulation?
Wasn't it someone from EMS charging €350 for a VCS3 plugin?
I haven't tried it yet but the KX-SYNTH-X16-V2 looks like it might be one of the better free efforts.

Re: Blofeld update suggestions
Yeah the effects are a bonus. The bitcrusher is alright as well, but you can't go too far wrong with a bitcrusher. The phaser, flanger, chorus and reverb are sort of usable but have a tiny range of worthwhile settings I find. Delay would be better if times could be changed smoothly but whatever. Som...

Re: Blofeld update suggestions
Could be useful for drums, for instance. Or different parts of an arrangement.
But you don't have to use all 16 parts of course, and the limitations on effects apply either way. Also as I say only the first four parts get their own effect anyway.

Re: Blofeld update suggestions
The degree of multimbralilty really doesn't have anything to do with it. Polyphony is assigned dynamically anyway. Effects are limited to one global effect and a secondary effect on the first four parts. That seems fair enough. I suppose they could allow more but while the effects are useable it's n...

Re: Need a Hardware MIDI Sequencer, Looking at the Yamaha RMX-1
That never bothered me.
In a way it's good as it stops you messing around choosing MIDI channels. I always knew what each track would be controlling. Actually I might go back to using it again for some stuff.

Re: looping sampler : a hardware ableton
Here's the key bit - multiple bar length phrases I think this rules out the MPC1000 at least. Not sure about the others, I don't think the KP2 will do this either. Maybe check out the Electro Harmonix 2880? Not sure if it'll do this but I'd be interested to know. EDIT - of course you can loop differ...

There are plenty of discussions online about these machines.
Have a look at this thread for instance:

Re: Need a Hardware MIDI Sequencer, Looking at the Yamaha RMX-1
In answer to the questions in your first post - yes & yes, for all the Yamahas.
Personally I'd be a bit wary of the RM1X, as others have said there may be a few annoying problems with the firmware.

Re: Need a Hardware MIDI Sequencer, Looking at the Yamaha RMX-1
What do you think the QY is lacking? Those little sequencers are almost identical to the QY700 and very similar to the RM1X. Very usable and capable boxes. The main limitation with the RM1X (and the QYs) as compared with the RS7000 is that it won't go in and out of record mode without stopping. This...

Re: Need a Hardware MIDI Sequencer, Looking at the Yamaha RMX-1
If cost and size are really major issues, and you think you'd be OK with the limitations of the RM1X then - Get a QY70/100. They are tiny and portable. You can get a QY70 for about £100 or whatever that is in $. I used a QY70 for ages, it's great. The 100 has more memory, a card slot and a line in (...
