Re: emu rob papen beat garDen rom set for proteus
What's the best one for single-cycle (or looping) waveforms for synthesis? X-Lead? It's funny that picking about the modules costs about the same as the ROMs usually go for. Would be really good if someone could come up with some way of making them - FLASH SIMMs + USB burner or something. That would...

Re: Monitoring through soundcard?
RIght, what do you think about things like the Allen & Heath ZED-R16, looked at that? I guess that's not as many channels as the MG32 but it's all in one piece (built in Firewire) and the big deal is you can instantly route 18 channels back out of the computer to mix on the board. That's quite a big...

Re: Monitoring through soundcard?
Latency is more of a problem when playing along with or overdubbing on stuff playing back from the computer obviously. A good computer and soundcard should be able to get latency down to a few ms though.
I'm down with recording through a nice mixer though.

Re: Monitoring through soundcard?
Yeah that's fine, if you've got a mixer with direct outs you can do that. One reason not to do it is if you don't use a mixer, another would be that it's one more thing in the signal chain. Most multi channel cards will do zero latency direct monitoring anyway you know, and many will give you a bunc...

Re: Control TX7 with a ZX Spectrum 128
Not being funny but why would you want to do that?
You can send MIDI commands from the BASIC but it probably won't be very tight in the timing department.
There is a built in Yamaha soundchip which could be fun though...

Re: MP-7 woes I need help
Pretty sure that would be referring to the 16 control knobs in Volume mode.
I've had a quick look in the manual and I can't see anything about MIDI control for the main volume. That would be quite an unusual feature, although it is apparently a digital control so maybe.

Re: MP-7 woes I need help
Haven't checked the manual but I don't think you can control the main volume via MIDI, what you are looking at there is channel volume, i.e. per MIDI channel which happens before the main volume. How broke is your knob?
Could be wrong though, in which case you get to hear the good news next!

Re: Sequencer Capabilities E-mu XL-7 Vs Yamaha RS7000
A couple of people seem to be trying to charge excessive amounts for RS7000s on UK ebay right now. £670!
£450 would be about right for a good one.

Re: Sequencer Capabilities E-mu XL-7 Vs Yamaha RS7000
I knew you'd reply balma. ;) I'll tell you what though, the grid mode on the X-7 is a bit dumb - it scrolls in realtime from measure to measure as it plays. So you either have to be super quick and edit before it gets to the next measure, or set a loop point and do one measure at a time, which works...

Re: Sequencer Capabilities E-mu XL-7 Vs Yamaha RS7000
You can do a lot of tweaking live with the E-MUs but you might find it takes a bit of setting up to get the most out of it. But then what doesn't. The synthesis and modulation stuff is very comprehensive (Proteus 2000 engine). There's a good editor out there now as well which makes extensive editing...

Re: Need help with a sequencer.
Hi, I play a Yamaha TX81Z synthesizer and I need a sequencer. You know Yamaha actually made something that was basically a TX-81Z with an 8 track sequencer built in. I give you, the TQ-5. Do not adjust your screen. http://www.vintagesynth.com/yamaha/tq5.jpg http://www.vintagesynth.com/yamaha/tq5.php

That's a bit of a bummer.
I'm sorry I said it was such a great price now.

Re: NEW DSI Tetr4 -4 voices of Mopho In a Box!
Yeah they're totally different really aren't they. The SEM also doesn't have 16 step sequencers with access to nearly very parameter or any patch storage. Obviously the only sensible answer is to get both.steveman wrote:Does look good, but it is monophonic.

Re: NEW DSI Tetr4 -4 voices of Mopho In a Box!
Audio in makes more sense on a mono, it's a bit weird having it on a poly I think, as if there's not enough sound coming out of the box to start with, so get a Mopho or an Evolver or an MS20 if that's what you most want to do. I reckon audio in on synths gets used quite a bit less than people would ...
